Head Units
I'm looking for opinions from folks that actually have these units. I just cant seem to decide which to get! My options are:
Pioneer DEH-P9400MP
Pioneer DEH-P8400MP
Alpine CDA-7995
Clarion DXZ835MP
I'll be running the HU through a pair of Alpine V12 amps (4ch and 2ch) and have not decided on the fronts yet. I'm leaning towards Boston Pro Series 6.5's.
Things that were important to me:
1. Plays MP3's - I hate having all the burned CD's in my car.
2. Actually sounds good...
3. Looks snazzy!

I have the Alpine 7995 and cannot say enough good things about it. I also have a 6 disc mp3 changer so I hardly even listen to XM. The sound quality is great and there are some pretty cool features for balancing the sound stage.

gstdtim - Pics of the install in your Z would be great! I'm especially curious how it will look in-dash. Also, does anyone know if Nissan sells extra paneling like what is on the doors/center console? I'd rather not have a big box hold under the HU!

Go with the Alpine 7995. It is the only one without an amp; preamps general produce better sound than receivers because it does not an an amp. It is really hard to a isolate interference from an amp's circuitry in such a small deck. think about it. Besides, you already have amps.
Then don't skimp out on audio wires. Go to a highend audio store and ask them for inexpensive speaker wires and RCAs.. (Audio Quest and Kimber Cables are not that expensive, there are some other that are better for the same price).
I might be bias since my 7995 arrives next week (ebayed it for $330)

Nice Cintel7!
I had planned on running Monster Power and Audio cables. Damn those things are expensive! I used to work for an electronics store and let me tell you, those thing have a 60% markup most of the time. It hurts to pay full price!
Let me know how you like your deck. I'm thinking of going the ebay route too. The prices there seem to be much better than retail stores lately.

Out of those, I think the Pioneer DEH-P9400MP looks the best. However, none of it's colors match those of the Z.
Man, I can't stand how all of the head units out there have to look like they are from outer space. The stock HU looks so nice and clean. Why can't anybody make a GOOD HU that looks that simple?

pioneer deh-p9400mp all the way..
i actually got my hands on a deh-p9450mp, the international model with 6.5 volt rca outs instead of the american 4v outs. lucky me still not in the Z yet but hopefully by the end of the weekend it will be!
it's an awesome radio...tons of features and looks great, except that it doesn't match at all...oh well

I have a Pioneer Premier deh-940mp which is the same as the pioneer 9400 but with a longer warranty and 6.5v preouts. I love the radio, it works great and everything is very logical. I also have it hooked up to a pioneer sdv-p7 dvd player and a pioneer xm box. Everything works very seemless and made a huge improvement in the factory bose system.

I am having the Alpine 7894 installed as we speak. Same deck as the 7995 but it has a built in amp to power my rear fill speakers and can change to amber to match the dash lights (most important). It is last year's model but can still be purchased. I got mine from Etronics.com for $310 with a full Alpine warranty (unlike ebay sellers- and you won't get scammed either). I am having a custom dash kit made to house the HU. I will post pics when done.
