woofer
Friend,
I am in the market to get a woofer. I am trying to keep it as clean as possible. I was wondering if behind the driver’s seat panel will work ok.
Please advice,
George from Pasadena,

Unless you're going to go thru the extremes of sealing the back of the cavity you're going to have to get a free-air sub-woofer rather than the much more commonly available sealed one. Keep in mind that if you seal the cavity that the interal volume is critical to the sound of the speaker.

I'm using a JL 10W3v3 with the sub compartment sealed. My friends are shocked by the quality and setup :-)

Can we see some pics? Did you just dynamat the inside & just used a free-air subwoofer? Where did you place your amp?

The inside was completely covered with dynamat and I sealed the crevices with poly foam spray. It was a mess, but I covered up as much of the major stuff as I could. My dad even cut pieces of wood to help cover up the larger spots befor spraying poly foam spray. For the front panel, I cut an MDF board and bolted it on for the sub to be mounted. Then I used silicon gel to seal up the sub and some other leaky spots.
To test, I just tapped the sub a little bit and the seal was very good!
I know it's hard to believe, but I don't have any rattling issues. I adjusted the xover in the amp and my headunit to get some deep bass without any "puffy" sounds or rattling. I have a friend who has a 10W7 setup in his Integra, and the smoothness of the bass doesn't even compare to my setup. It pretty much shocks everyone :-)
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure it makes sense to buy the steathbox now.
As for the amp, I have two. I have a small 35x2 to power up a couple of 6x9s and 200x1 for the sub. It is all hidden in the passenger side compartment. I bolted the amp to the plastic cover so it can be easily removed to expose the wires underneath. It is a common place to put the amp, and I have no complaints about it.
