Default Advice for My Set Up / Ground Wire Kit

Hello all, I've been piecing my system for the past 2-3 weeks and so far I have:

  • Alpine IVA-W200
  • JL 10W7 w/Enclosure
  • JL 500/1 Amp
  • 8 Guage Wires
  • Metra #99-7402 Dash Kit

I was going to get a capacitor, but I've read on www.the12volt.com that it is basically a waste of money.

I've decided to upgrade what they call "The Big Three" instead.

I might start with the custom Ground Kit for our cars that a member on the boards is selling. Does anyone have any experience or feedback with this?

Do you guys think I might need something else for my system? I'm not going competition bass since we tested the 10W7 and it pretty much shook the whole garage already. I just want to make sure I will be okay with this setup.

Any advice or tips will help! Thanks!

good list so far..but with that much bass.your going to need something upfront to compnsate for that much bass..some after market comps with a nice 2 channel amp should do the trick..

Im doing amost the same set up currently
10w7 in custom box
JL 500/1 amp
JL VR650-CSi (front)
JL VR650-CXi (back)
JL 300/4 amp
Pioneer premier DEH-P880PRS (ipod adapter + pac)

I currently have everything but the sub and the driver door speaker in place. should have time to finish it friday hopefully. Just need that damn dash kit to come in so I can put the radio in place. Its hanging there basicaly. Cant wait to hear it.

I also woundnt mess with a capacitor unless you notice a proble after its all installed. I doubt you will need one anyways.

How much did the JL VR650-CSi and JL VR650-CXi run you? Do you think I can run those off the IVA-W200?

One of the only problems I have now is to try and bypass the video lock on the IVA-W200. I was thinking of trying to make my own switch, but the PAC TR-7 seems to be a lot easier (at a rediculous price though @ $30).

I have the TR-7, its easy to install and its 20 bucks online. It just takes a few min to install.

The comps won't sound even close to as good running off the w200 as they would on an aftermarket amp. I guess for the mean time, it'll suffice, but it'll prolly distort at loud volumes.

You will definitely need a set of nice components up front. my opinion though is to spend as much as you can on NICE components for the front. Eliminate the rears altogether (they are for fill anyway and there are no back seat passengers in the Z). You truly won't miss them. Run them off the head for now if $$$ is tight, but plan on getting a 2 ch amp for the components in the near future.

As for the big 3, that is perfect. you really don't need a grounding wire kit. just get some 4awg wire and some rings and run your own. Capacitors are a waste if you are not going into competition level sound systems. Even then there is some debate if they really do anything.

On a side note, i hope you plan on installing some sound damping material throughout the Z. The JL sub is going to shake a few things loose. I have used FatMat on my last 6 installs and have been super happy with the results. It's cheaper than dynamat and easier to work with, doesn't stink nearly as much, doesn't run in high heat, etc.

Nice setup, I have a similar setup just that instead the 10W7 I have 2 10W6s and my Head Unit is the Avic-z1.

I agree that you will need nice Spk at front. you culd run them easy with your head unit, but it will really worth to get a 2 Channel amp for them, It will sound much better since you already have a nice setup it will really worth to get the extra amp.

Check out PICs of my install JL SYSTEM

You could also get a 4 Channel amp and moe the rear speaker also, but as many people have said, they are really no needed. You DON:T need any grounding ket, I use 2 g Wire for Power and Grounding, and replace the Ground of the battery. Don;t make GND wire of the Amps too long and you'll be fine.

You will need to Dynamat (or similar product) the whole card, Doors and all areas you can, that much bass you rattles your car like crazy.

Another note you will need at lease 1.25'' Spacer at the door (unless you are using Doorpods, I wanted a stock look so i went with the spacer). a 1'' will no do it.
