Default Alpine HU and steering wheel controls

Hello all, I have recently installed an alpine CDE-9850Ri with direct iPod controls and it works great. However, I have lost the steering wheel controls in the process. Anyone there in the US solved the issue specifically with alpine HUs? thanks a million

Search button is your friend...

I'll give you a heads up, try searching for: 'SWI-ALP'

I installed my alpine W-200 and the Pac and it works great, you have to use the resistors (2) that come with the interface and attach them to the white wire on the pack and then program it....very easy

OK, so Ia have had a good read after the search and I am still a little confused. I drive an 05 EU spec Z with steering wheel radio controls as standard. The HU is an alpine CDE-9850Ri with full iPod control. Thanks to my friend the search button, I have read many threads on this issue but with 06 Z drivers. Now, are we sure about the SWI-ALP as opposed to the more general SWI-X? The PAC site gives compatibility with 06 Zs and not 05! How to I know whether the SWI-ALP with work with MY HU? Thanks in advance and PLEASE bear with me. I love my new HU but I really MISS my controls!

oh, and just to add to my confusion, anyone care to explain the differences between the following: PAC SWI-X/PAC SWI-ALP/Peripheral PESWIX/Peripheral PESWIAKJ. thanks for your help

Not sure about the others but the SWI-X is programmed to learn the remote commands (provided your HU has a remote capability) -- it has an infrared transmitter you install within direct line of sight to the HU.

The SWI-ALP is hardwired to the HU -- compatible Alpine units are listed at the PAC website.

I think the IVA-W200 is one of the cleanest installs and nicest double-din units out there.

Which PAC unit did you end up using?

my HU is not listed on the PAC site but then I am told it isn't mean for the US. so I suppose I will never get a definitive answer. I do know it is "wireless remote ready" as per this link

http://www.alpine-europe.com/content...ght=cde-9850ri

and that it does have a mini jack on the rear. also, I don't have the money of the IVA-W200! ciao! any help would be gratly appreciated

I used the PAC-SWI-ALP- which plugs in the back of radio and like I said the white wire gets hooked up to 2 resistors and to the steering control plug, the instructions are very clear.

@minispider: did you plug the PAC in the mini jack on the back of the HU?
@everyone else: the IVA-W200 is a wondeful piece of kit but it's too much for me. anyone solved the issue with a single DIN alpine unit? if so what type, so I can look it up on the alpine site and compare it to mine. thanks

the Pac has a mini plug that has to be plugged to the back of the HU,in addition to the white wire + 2 resistors, it works like a charm.

@minispider+speedrcr: thanks! my HU has a mini jack for steering wheel control so I think the SWI-ALP should work just fine. just in case, I'll wait for an absolute definite answer from any other member here that has done the same with a single DIN alpine unit...
