Default Woofer Install-Need Advise!!!

I just installed the Eclipse AVN-5435 in my 06 Z, (WHICH FIT LIKE A GLOVE!). I installed the amp under the passenger seat, and the 10" Eclipse Woofer in the factory "woofer hole". It sounds like **** because of the aluminum housing. Here's where my question starts: Someone told me I can remove that aluminum housing and fit a custom box in that enclosure, has anyone done that? Or should I make a custom wood panel to go over the woofer and dynamat the inside of the enclosure? PLEASE HELP!!

I debated putting a sub in the factory spot for a while and couldn't come up with a workable solution. I ended up putting the amps there instead, as so many others have. The problem is that there is too much room back there to make the whole area a "sealed" enclosure, not to mention how hard it would be to seal. A 10" sub generally needs .75-1.0 cubic feet of tightly sealed enclosure. It's not impossible, but putting one there would be like building a ship in a bottle. There are more practical solutions. I had a JL Stealthbox, but it was too much bass for the car for my listening style. I built this instead:

It's an 8" Polk MOMO. Small, but good enough for me. My woofers in the doors carry most of my bass. There are a lot of cool options out there. The factory sub is a free-air unit. I never really cared for them, but Nissan seems to fancy them. Bottom line, you can find a better solution.

i had no luck finding the mentioned sub box on www.wickedcas.com

I'm considering the sub install in the factory slot, and was wondering on you feeling about it after having done it. Should I just spend $100-150 and get a box? I'm worried about losing half of my trunk space.

THanks

I installed a 10" autotek sub in the stock location and had the same problem. What I did was tried my best to seal up all the holes with silicon and tape as much as possible (doesn't have to be perfect) and stuffed three pillows inside to take up space and somewhat seal up the area and create a smaller enclosure sort of. I ended up with about one cubic feet of air space and the sub sq sounds great to for my needs. It hit the mid bass notes and also the lows. I might stuff another one to bring the air space even lower to see what that would do to the sq. Hope this helps.
