Default Any disadvantages to running sub amp at 2 ohms?

Hoping I don't end up regretting asking this AFTER ordering the sub... but are there any disadvantages to running an amp rated to be stable at 2 ohms AT 2 ohms to get the most output from it?

Amp is a Kicker ZX700.5 5 channel amp; the sub amp is rated at 210 watts RMS at 4 ohms and 420 watts RMS at 2 ohms. I currently have a 4 ohm JL 10W1v2 and just ordered a 2 ohm JL 10W3v3.

After the fact, I have to admit I don't know alot about amp power, impedance ratings and such, so will I be good with this setup or is there something I don't know that I should be taking into account?

Yeah, that's the obvious bit. Just asking if there's anything I'm overlooking. Most of what I see people run are 4 ohm subs on amps running at 4 ohms...

More heat, huh? Hmm, so does anyone have heat issues with their amp in the cubby behind the driver's seat? I have the stock Bose sub cover on to hopefully let some heat out... Though I do have my freaky lighted nuclear bomb-looking cap mounted right behind that grill for effect, which prob blocks off a good bit of ventilation...

the lower the ohm the more power your amp is making

it will increase temps at lower ohm

some amps get really hot some don't

i run my power RF amps at 1 ohm they don't really get hot even at 1 ohm

i am doing my rf amp now at .75 ohm it will get a bit warmer i think

but not what i consider hot

i think you made a good purchase

you could always hook up a cpu cooling fan on the acc switch so it runs when the amp does to get air flow...

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when excess heat was brought up. My amp has overheating protection, so I'll let it be for now and consider that option if it does happen to overheat.

A higher speaker impedance is also going to give you a higher dampening factor - which is a good thing. If you're looking for more quality give up the 3 dB worth of gain created by doubling the wattage output. I can't say I can here the difference between too loud 114 dB and too louder at 117 dB ... however I can here the difference caused by the distortion of an over driven/clipped amplifier at nearly any volume.

I'm not really looking to make it louder; I don't blast my system. I'm just looking to put in a higher quality sub that happens to have a greater need for power to run well, thus will be running the amp at 2 ohms to give it the power it needs.

I'm running my Kicker 10" L5 at 2 ohms from my Kicker 700.5 amp...no problems so far. (It's also mounted behind the driver's seat, in the OE Bose cubbby)

Sweet; good to know. I should be golden as soon as the new sub arrives.
