Default Avic D2 + Metra Double Din kit = big gap!

Well I finally went ahead and bought the Metra kit for my D2 that I put in 8 months ago because I thought it would look "cleaner." Unfortunately, the kit has a gap on the top and bottom (much worse on the bottom though) that makes it almost uglier than the crappy harness that my installer originally made up. Sigh.

Anyone figure a way to fix this yet? Besides buying a Z1 that is.... looks like it fits pretty well on that!

Wow that does look like crap. What my local dealer does is modify the metra piece in his way to make it fit better, or he makes his own trim. See if any of your local custom guys can get it done for you.

06s are like that, you need to trim and mold the dash opening so it fits better, and then glue that piece separately to the dash, dont use the clips that grab onto the stock brackets ,those just pu**** every which way

Yup, this is the 2006 one. Lucky for me Crutchfield's service was so good, they gave me a refund on the spot. Didn't even ask me to ship the part back!

Yes it was the one specific to 2006, it just does not fit the Avic D2 very well...

im digging this up because i have an unsightly gap too, about an 1/8 of an inch on the top and sides and about a 1/4 on the bottom. im using the metra 99-7602 double din cover w/ a pioneer fh-p8000bt. this is between the hu and trim piece, the trim piece fits flush with the dash surround piece. a little dissapointed considering i made a thread asking which fits best and was guided to this part, getting exactly what i was trying to avoid! anyone know a kit that fits perfectly for an aftermarket double din???? thanks!

Does anyone know how well it fits with the avic-f700bt? I'm looking to install the headunit with this specific metra kit on my 06 this weekend. Can anyone clarify if it fits well with the dash and that it's only a problem between the metra kit and headunits? Thanks in advance
