OEM Stereo Swap
Is it possible to take an '03 OEM Bose 6 disc head unit and put it into an '05 Enthusiast? Is it plug and play or will I need to re-wire? Where can I find info on how to un-install the old head unit and install the new head unit?
Thank you for your help.

It can be done, but it is not worth the hassle. Do a search, there are several write ups on how to do it. Bottom line is, sounds like crap after you spend money and time making it work.
zillinois,
I did search and found a ton of great information, but nothing on swapping an OEM Bose 6 disc head unit from an '03 with my OEM head unit. I have an '05 Enthusiast and am looking for a simple way to play my iPod through the stereo. I currently use an FM transmitter but am not happy with the sound quality. My wife’s car has a tape deck and I am happy with the sound running the iPod through that. Anyway, I found an OEM Bose 6 disc head unit for sale and wanted to know if it would be a simple plug and play. If so, I think the tape deck would be the simplest option for me. Thank you for your reply.

Search for a PAC item and you should be able to connect auxilary players (i.e. iPod). They have a product for what you're looking for. Good luck.

its possible, but take a good grand or more in factory equipment, wiring, speakers, and then about hmm two to three days of work, to remove part of the interior, run new harnesses back, plug things in...and in the end, you get a stereo that sounds like poop, just for an ipod...i personally think money can be better spent with a normal aftermarket HU and ipod adapter...or an ipod equiped HU

Yes, the 6 cd changer will plug right into a non-bose car. However, the sound that comes from the unit is very quiet even turned all the way up and even if you amplify it, it sounds really bad.
The BOSE head unit has signal processing which is not very compatible with non-BOSE speakers/amps and wiring.
So you need a special BOSE adapter and an amplifer, plus in and out harness etc. I limped by for about a year and half with this setup before I finally broke down and got an aftermarket head unit. If you do a search BOSE 6 cd changer with frankmusic, I think, you will find the adapter name. I have it somewhere, if you can't find it, pm me.
