Default Passport 8500 directwire install

Ok, I just got the directwire kit for my Passport 8500 X50 radar detector.

Can anybody suggest the easiest way to install this? The install sheet is very generic... says black is ground, and the striped wire is the hot wire.

Ok, where is the best place to tap the ground/ hot lead into? I have no idea how to get this hooked up, and don't want to ruin the detector, or more importantly, the car.

Thanks.

I've read that you can just tap the power for the mirror, but I haven't bothered hardwiring mine yet.

How has the Passport worked for you in the past? I'm really going to jump on one soon.

If you're buying new get a V1, and a blinder.

There are two issues with the passport, it has less strength and takes longer to notify you on a received signal, and it doesn't hold value like a V1.

A blinder is essential for interstate speeding, highly funded departments give the motor's division laser guns to play with.

I have a V1, but what the hell is a blinder?

To the OP, I hardwired my V1 to my rear view mirror. Fairly simple IF you have the homelink mirror.

i ran i ran it all the way to the fuse panel in the drivers footwell and simply just plugged it into a slot that was hot when the key is on (test which one with a test light) and just undid one of the bolts down there and put it back with the ground wire underneath it. took 10 mins

I like my Passport. Haven't had any problems with it. Bought it off of ebay for $200. I've read that the x50 is just as good as the V1, but just costs less, that's what fueled my choice.

So, nobody knows how to install the directwire kit?? I don't have the autodimming rearview so can't tap into the mirror.

I hardwired mine to my radio, I ran the wires along the headliner, under the dash to the radio.

I have an x50 and I've had plenty of time of knowing if I was getting radar or not...
