Default Is it possible for a Aftermarket Navigation mount it in factory navigation dock

I had a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 ever since last year and i finally realize it i still have not install it into my Z yet. I would like to ask can i customize the compartment where the original factory navigation is puted so the aftermarket navi can be a perfect fit. I would like the door still be working too..... I dont know if yor can understand but i just want to give it a shot.

More than likely not. The upper compartment is too small for the rear of the unit to fit there.

Yes, it is possible for aftermarket DVD Nav to go in the stock spot. It just depends on which one you pick, . Go to Crutchfield.com and see what will fit in the Z.

If you're just talking about a Garmin or similiar unit, then there would be no issue. I had a Garmin Nuvi 660 as well as a Garmin Street Pilot in the cubby spot. Either will work fine there, but you will want to get the external antenna.

I'm not sure you received a clear answer to your question.

You will not be able to fit the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 into the upper/forward cubby (where Nissan places the OEM navigation unit). If you install the Pioneer AVIC-Z1, you must remove the factory H/U, and put the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 into the double-din space.

I think I understand what you are planning since I tried doing this as well. The depth of the forward/upper cubby is inadequate to accomodate the the Pioneer AVIC-Z1. To overcome this problem, you must fabricate a new center console replacing the stock dash piece. That would have been the best way for Nissan to do this (placing the double-din slot higher on the dash), but they wanted to use the upper/cubby slot for the navigation screen (which is the best position for safely viewing a navigation device).

Your plan is wise since you want the double-din position higher on the dash where it should be for easier and safer operation.
