do you purchase service plans when you buy audio equiptment?
PriceType of plan
$79.99 3-year Repair Plan
$129.99 5-year Repair Plan
what do you think, is this worth it?
its for the pioneer avic d3

i occasionaly do but it totally depends on the product. In your case i would do a no go only because most stuff will come busted out of the box and will still be covered under the store warranty, its not all too often that a year down the line something will just stop working like that.
I normally buy them on stuff with lots of moving parts or big purchases that i know things will have to be replaced like the 60" Sony LCD i bought, i know the bulb will burn out in a year or two and will need to be replaced. The circuit city warranty provides me with a free replacement so the overall cost of the service plan went down alot.

from HU, mids, highs ,amps, box, sub , crossovers
cause on conservative set ups Usually stuff does not break Usually
and on conservative set ups stuff is cheap to replace ,with new stuff
factory warranty are usally 1 year
i don't see the bargain
example a $200 amp if it breaks in the 1st year it is usually factory warranty covered
lets say that 2 years after installation the $200 amp takes a crap
now i would imagine your paying freight to send product for repair
your buying the warranty , you paying to return to fix
you have down time because your without, while amp is being repaired
all to fix a $200 2 year old amp
better off taking the money for the insurance put in an envelope , and if by chance your amp breaks , and your out of factory coverage , take the money in envelope and buy an new $200 amp
my thought on it

I have to say...I NEVER buy warranties at Best Buy or Circuit City for most of my a/v equipment...unless it's a big ticket item like a big screen TV or plasma. And maybe it's just luck but I've never had a single problem with anything I've ever bought over the last 16 years..not one.
My buddy on the other hand has had problems with every single thing every buys that's electronic. From a clock radio to an ipod to laptops....everything he buys always has a problem....even his new car(well, it IS a Mustang...what did he expect?). So he always buys the extended warranties...even on the small stuff cuz he always ends up using them. I guess sometimes it's just luck on these things.

My answer is no. My reasoning here is that you already have a 12 month warranty. If equipment goes that long, it's likely to last another 12 months. Since manufacturers of electronic equipment continuously improve their products and the price goes down, it is likely that a replacing a failed piece of equipment may be more desirable than a repair.
The exception might be a double-din H/U with a rotating LCD screen and DVD player. There are quite a few moving parts in this type of device, and the hostile enviroment inside a car makes some type of mechanical failure more likely. Certainly the cost of an extended warranty would be a factor in the decision.
And, if you buy a Saab made in Sweden
, you most certainly want an extended warranty.

Another +1 on the no warranty.
The only thing I've bought a warranty on is my 62"
TV as it was $89 for 3 years of in-home repair. The thing would cost me more than that to deliver to a repair place ... and for another $29 the bulb was included. I have a feeling that about month 30 the bulb is going to go ...

i got the insurance on everything at circuit city. speakers blow, amps short out, double dins have errors. i must of blown my speakers twice and everytime i got a brand new pair. if ne thing happens to it they give me a brand new one
Ok id get it for the simple fact that a d3 tends to cost around 800 to the most ive seen it was 1200. Now i for one dont have that kind of money to throw around every year so id say go for it but in the long run its up to you. Granted it is a REPAIR service plan meaning it will more than likely be sent out to a service center take roughly one to two weeks to come back meaning unless you have a spare radio laying around you will most likely be out of a radio for a lil bit. With that said I'd still buy it.
