Installing a complete carputer in navy hole?
Hello,
I am brand new here and have seen a lot of threads where screens are installed in the nav cubby and/or original head unit location and I have also seen one or two full carputers with screen in dash in the double din head unit location. I have a 2006 base model Z and what I would like to do is install fully in the dash (computer components and the screen) into the nav cubby hole. Does anyone know if this has already been done or can be done? Is there enough space? I still want the sound to be run through the head unit below. I can get all of the components to fit in a double din size enclosure or possibly even smaller, but I need to know of all of it can fit in there, and how difficult it would be to mount it in there. I will greatly appreciate any help/information I can get!
Thanks,
SmaxCom.

I am wondering the same thing except I want to take the bose 6 disc changer out and mount the carputer behind that. I think there should be enough room for my mini-itx setup.
Edit: Found photos of the CD changer. Wonder how deep the hole is.

Well, I found a complete double din soloution, but it is a bit pricy. $1400! I'm sure I could put one together myself for much cheaper, but I am no handy man. Does anyone know if something like this could be mounted in the navigation area? I guess I could just put this in the standard head unit location, but I was hoping to find something like this without an amp/radio built in.

You really won't be able to fit a full unit in the nav spot as there isn't that much room behind the nav sport for something that large.
The only problem with the generic double-din units like that is that they are cheaply made and have no warranites or guarantees. You're better off building a small pc setup to stash behind the driver's seat and routing the video to a screen in the cubby.
