Hidden Radar Detector, still work?

Hidden Radar Detector, still work?
In Virginia radar detectors are illegal, so I am thinking of getting one and keeping it hidden, maybe in the arm rest, or under the steering wheel area..
Does anyone know if they will still work hidden? Will I lose a lot of range? How effective would if be?

The effectiveness would be 0%. It has to be in view of a window to pick up radar, any radar website will tell you that. I got a Valentine one and the remote display, then wired everything underneath the carpeting in my car and put the unit in the back window. Ever think of that? Or still to high risk?
My unit is invisible due to tint and the fac tthat I mounted it under the brake light flap.

Buddy of mine who has a 97 Max has a stealth detector, the display is mounted in the Guage cluster, and the sensors are mounted in the grill, and in the rear.. real nice job, not sure if it was custom or not, but if you live where you not allowed to have them, i think it worth the extra cash.

there are 100% stealth detectors, but they are big bucks. my mom got one from the factory on her benz, all you see is a little red light and it buzzes. but from the factory it was a 1000$ option.

Escort
I have the [now discontinued] SR1 in my 350Z and the new SR7 in my S8. As it has been stated, they are expensive. The sensors are mounted in the front grill and above the rear license plate. If a police officer pulls you over, the hidden sensors could be seen if the officer "looked."
The best thing about the SR's are the way they can be mounted out-of-sight and it's likely you wouldn't be "spotted" and then targeted.
The down side of the SR's where you live -- heavy fines and slammer-time -- if you're caught.

I have the escort/passport SRX installed in my Z. This is a remote radar detector and active laser jammer. It is expensive. Escort says they sell this unit through profesisonal installers only. I was able to pick it up here locally and install it myself. I saved some money this way but it was still big bucks for a radar detector. I don't have the NAV unit so I have the detector display mounted in the NAV space. It works great. In addition it is completely hidden with the NAV door down so I don't worry about theft or an officers probing eyes if I should get puled over.

It doesn't matter if a cop can see your detector or not...
Just in case you were not aware, police do actually have "radar detector" detectors. Here's an ad for the "latest" Spectre Radar Detector Detector to ruin your day. One of the reasons I chose the BEL 975 remote detector was because it could be upgraded against this technology...hopefully.
