Alpine PDX amps...
Anyone have any experience with these amps? I am fairly intrigued considering their size and power ratings, but question their SQ/SPL performance. I am upgrading my system to DLS and Polk SR's and wanted to pick up another four channel and possibly mono amp to put my old system into my work vehicle. However, I would hate to be an expensive guinea pig for these puppies if they don't live up to their billing.
I ordered the PDX-4.150 from amazon (price was not too bad) and it will arrive tomorrow. As soon as everything is connected I will post my results...
Currently running a set of Infinity 6010cs off of an old but true PPI Amp. I am looking to upgrade the infinity's as soon as I can find a good set of components...

I might have an extra set of the Polk SR's if I change one of my mounting options. They are pricey, but very well reviewed and discounted for forum members. I also have a slightly used set of old school a/d/s 346's that I am going to switch out. Let me know if you are interested in upgrading to the moderate a/d/s of all out polks.
Here's a link to a recent review in from Car Audio Mag

These amps are really nice. But the price kills them. Not great watt/dollar ratio. These are a full range class d line of amps. I opted for the same technology in Eclipse' XA line. They were half the price and satified my power ratings.
Anyone skeptical about the full range class d technology should not worry. My Eclipse amps are very nice. They do not color the sound at all. They run very efficiently and relatively cool. Leave it to Bang & Olufson to come up with a great technology design.
I bought an Eclipse XA1000 (sub) and XA2000 (components) for half of what I would have paid for the Alpines. The only difference was the Alpine would have given me 120 more watts to my sub, which would be almost negligabe.

I had looked at the Eclipse lineup as well, but received a few negative reviews/feedback from them and elected to go with the DLS amps. However, the PDX stuff looks pretty sweet and space friendly.

I want to change my head unit, but that just because I want a dvd player. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the setup.
I'm running a PDX 1.1000 and a 2.150. I think they're great amps. It's incredible how they can pack so much power into such a small package. You must really see it in person to get a grasp of how small they are. the 1.1000 dose tend to run hot, so I would be a little wary about stacking it. Sound wise they are very clean, no noise. I think they are more on the neutral end, the highs are very smooth, low end is ok, but lacks a little punch. They are very efficient, I get absolutely no dimming with these amps. I don't think they're expensive, it's a good value imo. I really like the speaker connections, at first it seemed wierd, but installing the amp is a breeze.
Does the 1000.1 at least pack a good punch with the subwoofer? I can do without punch from the four channel, but I really like the idea of being able to power a Polk SR 12" without having to get a huge weighty amp. If that's not the case I will be sticking with my DLS RA50 and go with an IDQ and just add a mono amp later.

the 1.1000 has gobs of power. I used to run a RF BD1000 on my sub and it did it justace but the PDX can kill my sub if I'm not careful. I've never had a problem with the sub bottoming out with the RF but with the PDX I've bottom out my sub several times. I need to lower my bass eq setting if I'm gonna play it hard. I do notice that I seem to raise the bass eq a bit with the PDX and that takes care of the lack of lower end punch that a few reviews mentioned. Get it you won't be sorry it's a great amp. Only thing I wish it had was a remote gain. Sure I can use the headunits controls, but it's so much easier to use a remote gain ****.
For a size reference - The PDX 4.150 can be easily placed under a seat, sleathly and easily accessible. I am going to slide a piece of MDF under the floor and create a nice sandwich between the amp and carpet to help secure it. When the seat is all the way back it doesn't shift at all...

Pet it nicely.... good amp... work for daddy... very good... (had to throw some humor in there... )
