i spent about an hr searching and didnt find what I am looking for.
Here is what I am looking for, any help would be great.
DVD fold out or fixed LCD head unit, either a single din with fold out or duan din with the full screen. but this is basically what I am looking for in a perfect world from most to least important.
be able to retain as much function of my steering wheel stereo controls as possible
Navigation- just moved to so cal and i am getting tired of mapquesting everywhere I go
will work with my Ipod video to play music, if its able to play the videos too, thats a plus.
plays DVDs
bluetooth capable
touch screen
Under $1000
Thanks!

very nice, thanks.
always been a pioneer fan. Does this support the steering wheel controls too?
Hi.
Yes, it supports steering wheel controls- there's an adapter that will make it work.
I also recommend the avic-d3. It uses extra modules that you have to buy separately to add XM, Sirius, Bluetooth, Ipod and Voice control.
I'm about to get one installed in my '06 base... after a lot of research it's the best bang for the buck.
If you really want a flip down unit Pioneer has that also, but the d3 looks great as a double-din unit in the Z.
btw- www.avic411.com has a ton of info on this unit along with mods to change the system's backgrounds to whatever you want, etc.

awesome i think i might buy one today!
Last 2 questions.
when mounted, im assuming the face slides downward to insert the CDs, this isnt going to hit our AC controls?
also, will I need a face plate adaptor to get it sitting in there correctly, or does the unit come with everything (minus harness conversion plug) that I need?

I haven't heard anything about it getting in the way of the A/C. I don't think it slides down far enough for that to be an issue.
Here's a thread for you to get an idea of fit and finish.

edit: depending on where you get it you will need to get any accessories separately, including the harness. I don't think you need a dash trim kit since it is basically a perfect match for the double-din hole. Could be wrong on this. I know crutchfield.com is pretty good about including the whole installation package including harness and will talk you through the install on the phone if you want to do it yourself. They may not be as cheap, however, as some other online retailers that don't offer tech support.

The annoying thing is that you have to take our your CD and put in the nav DVD if you want to use the navi... Also, is there a way to bypass the navigation security... i want to enter my address on the go... i don't want to park and put up hand brakes just to enter an address...
also, can you watch dvd while driving?

I am not sure about the D3, but with my alpine double din unit, I had to purchase the Metra dash kit....the dash kit provides the doubledin trim you will need. Again, this is for the Alpine,,I am sure it would be the same for the D3,,,,both are doubledin units...If there is a question, I would call Crutchfield's Customer Support,,,they can give you the exact info. Or check avic411.com
