We're working with a shop in Arizona right now trying to get one of the last test modules working on an old hot rod. I'm hoping to get feedback from them anyday now.

Wow, just read through almost all 300 posts. Deff interested! Was only looking at stage 3 until page 3 (50 per page) then an add on to stage 2 to make stage 3 was mentioned. Now I'm doing that.

Will the start 3 be like the BMW's, walk up to car with key fob, unlock car, place fob in a holder then put button? Or will it be like the new vette's walk up to car, in a certain distance from car the doors unlock and push button once to turn on ignition and again to start and a third time to shut off ignition.

I don't know whose seen it but the new Jag XF with the pulsating "heart beat" PB start. That would be a nice feature ...food for thought

At the present moment, with our present design, the stage 3 add on ignition controller will only control the ignition. You will still have to unlock the doors with the key or the keyfob. For cost reasons the RFID system we are using has a fairly short range - 6-7".

I got the call from Arizona today - they got the module installed and working perfectly in a 1934 Ford hotrod. Pretty slick car and the shop was very impressed with the module.

Oh, and as for the brake input safety thing. Could that be wired to use the parking brake instead of the foot brake? Especially for the 6MT. I know If I'm on flat ground I don't even use the brake unless I need to stop.

It can't be hooked directly to the parking brake input as the polarity is different. It really isn't a big deal to put your foot on the brake while you start the car though - your foot is already right there.

The main point of it is to prevent accidently starting/stopping the car. Hooking it up to the parking brake would really be pointless, you might as well just bypass the safety feature (something we don't condone under any circumstance!).

Yes, we are almost ready.

We have decided to offer the my350z.com members the first 10 modules. This will also help us support the installation of these modules as we have first hand experiance installing these on a VQ platform. We will be offer a special introductory price for these first 10 modules.

I'll post more info as soon as the 10 modules are ready to go.

I have 5 of these available exclusively to the members of My350Z.com for "final" testing. The modules have passed all of our current beta testing with no issues. We now need to transition to manufacturing!

Please PM me if you are interested in purchasing one of these 5 initial release modules. The price is $149.99 plus shipping. The moduels will sell for $179.99 once they are fully released.

I may have just had an idea regarding the upgrade to stage 3. The main issue with making stage 3 is the transponder immobilizer thing in the key itself, correct? Well What if I new fob were design in which the stock key were put into the fob, much like the newer style fob works. And inside the fob is a signal amp to boost the signal so the key didn't have to actually be in the ignition for the immobilizer to be disabled. I have no idea how all this stuff actually works so my idea may not work but it is still good in theory. (mechanical wheel lock would still need to be addressed) but this is just a thought I had.

No, the immobilizer isn't an issue at all. It will have to be bypassed, but thats not much of a concern.

The two main issues are:

1. Mechanical steering wheel lock

2. Security

Bypassing the mechanical steering wheel lock is going to be a hold up for most people, as from what I have seen it is irreversible. I don't believe steering wheel locks are an effective means of vehicle security, but at the same time I don't see people willfully bypassing them.

Security is an issue because you are basically building a system that will start a car conveniently that most likely has had the steering wheel lock disabled. You've got to have some sort of intelligent security system preventing just anyone from starting the car. The transponder chip wouldn't be a bad source of security, but its extremely short range makes it somewhat difficult to work with. Our current design uses RFID tags to give a range of about 6" - should be enough to slide under a cupholder or maybe even in a seat cushion.

so these are essentially still in Beta mode or are these 100% finished ? I want one, but don't want to risk having some issue pop up after I install it.

We haven't made a single change since we since out the beta batch. I have two working flawlessly in my personaly cars and I've installed one locally with no issues. We arn't aware of any issues with any of the beta modules that we distributed.

The modules we are sending out now are considered to be "final" versions. It's always possible that something will pop up but are not aware of any potential issues at this time and we have no plans to change anything at all with this module.

Oh, and we've now officially begun the development of the "stage 3" add on ignition controller.

The design is still in its early phase but it should allow security, flexibility, and most likely even remote start! We've narrowed down our RFID search to two different modules and we just have to decide on one and run with it. The circuit board will be designed and ordered soon and hopefully we can quickly start on the software development!
