Question What's the story on cubbies

So I was reading this thread about Garmin 350s and other after-market GPS units installed in empty cubbys...
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/306406-i-think-i-want-a-garmin-nuvi-350-any-other-good-alternatives.html

There's even a link to a video of an after-market installation.

My empty cubby just pops open but doesn't slide back into the dash.
It looks like a baseball cap and affects the visibility of any screen/GPS I put in the cubby.

Anybody know - Can I buy this receding door cubby and put it in place of my current cubby??

So I called Courtesy and they can get the "lid cluster" for around $180 but the parts guy couldn't tell me if it would fit in my car. He said they couldn't guarantee it would fit.

Has anyone done this mod?

Mine is a 2004.5.

The slide in cubby cam in 03 models i believe and the 04 is the one that flips up. You can call courtesy and get the 03 cubby with the finisher piece and it will fit just fine.

+1 to the info above, and here's a post I made in another thread.

Here's a summary:

2003:
Non-Nav: manual and retracts into dash
Nav: manual and retracts into dash

2004-2005:
Non-Nav: manual and flips up
Nav: powered and retracts into dash

2006-2007 (new dash style):
Non-Nav: manual and flips up
Nav: No nav cover at all*

*I believe some early 2006 models had powered and retractable covers like the 04 and 05 Nav models, but they discontinued them for some reason
Just FYI, the 03 cubby will be a dark grey color, while your dash is like dark charcoal or black.

Mine is like this as well.

So if I want a black one, I'm looking at $180?

Anyway to just remove it?

Well, you can do what I did. Buy the 03 Nav cover and finisher for around $80-90, and then paint it black with interior paint.
