Default new alpine stereo but lost fm

wondering if anyone else has had the issue of installing an aftermarket stereo and not being able to pick up fm vary well afterwards. I installed my alpine that i took out of my truck into my z, so i know its not the stereo itself, and yes I did plug in the antenna before someone asks that question. Any hints on how to remedy the situation or am I doomed to buy a inline fm booster. It does come in a little bit here and there.

I know you hooked up the antena, but did you also hook up the power wire to the antena as well?

Since you know you have a working device, it’s must be either the antenna’s power wire (as Sean and Doug point out) or that you have a faulty antenna connection.

When you do get it working, please post back to this/your thread so we know what the problem really was and its solution.

I just installed my Alpine HU, and this thread has me worried... I got my install kit and harness from Crutchfield, plugged right in to the factory harness, along with plugging in the black antenna connection. I don't think I soldered any other blue wire because I would have noticed had it not been part of the provided harness.

def what they said, i installed a headunit the other day and had no fm signal either, took it back a part, it is a solid blue wire from the crutchfeild harness, look in your book for your alpine if there is no blue wire on the alpine's harness, pm me with any q's

Funny thing happened as I read this thread last night... I was thinking to my self "did I get everything hooked up right?" and then I realized that when I turned the car on to check the new unit out, something was missing. At the time I think the excitement of the new stereo blinded me, but in the back of my mind I was thinking "man, either the stock headunit put out A LOT of light, or something is missing". So after I posted here last night, I realized I had forgotten to plug the 3 gauges back in So I went back out at 10:30 last night and took the dash apart just to do that.

Then I realized that "yeah, I didn't solder that antenna wire"... so I just won another dash removal session tonight when I put my amp in

Someone make this thread a sticky for shat's sake!

+1 for me as well. When I installed my W-200 last year, I didnt pick up any FM stations worth a flip. I came back here and started searching. The outcome,,,,I forgot to attach the power ant wire as well. Being said,,,once that was taken care of,,,,the FM stations worked great...

Well, I took my dash apart AGAIN last night (80th fricken time ) to look for this wire, and turns out there is a wire in the harness for it that connects to a light green wire with silver stripe. And my FM reception is fine, so it seems I am good to go. I looked for another blue wire in another harness, and there isn't one there.

On another note, I couldn't get the damn PAC-SWIX to program up to my steering wheel controls. I am sick of this install.

These guys saved my butt on my FM reception as well. In my install thread I posted up a wiring schematic and a couple of members pointed out that I had left out the power antenna wire. It was the only wiring that I hadn't planned for....seems like a lot of other people go the same route.

Good stuff
