Default Nissan XM radio unit

Hey everyone,

I am actually picking up my '06 Z Grand Touring this Saturday The car has the Bose system, but not XM radio...I have XM in my current car and want to transfer the service to the Z, so I am looking into getting the factory installed XM.

However, when I asked the dealership about it, they said "Oh, the car doesn't have navigation...OK, the XM install is fine." (i.e. it wouldn't be possible at the dealer with nav already installed). I am assuming the XM takes up the cubby hole or something? I'm pretty sure it's integrated into the head unit and they go through the cubby hole to get to it. Anyone have the XM in their car that can tell me where it's located?

Factory or OEM installed XM satellite will probably cost you at least $500 (I would ask how much first)
No they dont go through the cubby to install it
XM has nothing to do with Navigation
I would take it to a stereo shop, they can install XM cheaper with better components.

The typical Nissan dealership isn't the best place to get an A/V device (the product or its installation). I would go to an aftermarket shop since you will get a solution that probably costs less and is much better.

Additional Point: You should shop the aftermarket installers in your area. Find a shop that can do what you want for the best price, and then establish a relationship.

thanks guys, i actually have a good friend who works at tweeter. I could get a good deal there...the only reason i wanted the factory setup is because i thought it'd be integrated into the H/U.

PS: got the Z Saturday and loving it!

I bought my oem sirius kit from this guy that works at a nissan dealership in tennessee. The kit came with the tuner, antenna, and extension cable for $200. The only part of the kit I ended up using was the tuner. I didn't like the antenna that came with it. It wasn't the actual oem body-colored one that comes from the factory. As for the extension cable, it wasn't needed. I got the body-colored antenna from courtesy nissan. this antenna also requires a nut that nissan's micrfiche doesn't show and they had no ide what the part # was. After doing some research, I found out that it's the same nut that the murano uses for it's sat radio antenna. Also the antenna only has a 6" wire that come out of it. You will need to either splice an extension wire onto the antenna or buy the extension from the dealer.
Here are all of the parts needed for the install. These are for sirius so the xm part number will vary slightly. But if you go into the dealer they'll be able to cross refrence these numbers to find what you will need for xm.

Tuner: 999U9-NV004 (came with kit for $200)
Antenna: 28208-CF41A $36.56
Antenna cover (SILVERSTONE): 28228-CF40A $5.70
Antenna nut: $4.34
Feeder wire for antenna (could be fabricated and not completely nessesary): 28243-CF40B $50.23

Here's a link to an auction on ebay for the kit that comes with everything you really need if your not looking for the oem anttena look.(same person I bought mine from)

Here's a great DIY for the install of the antenna that I found on g35driver.

hey thanks a lot Forever Z, I was thinking of doing something like what you did. I am not so concerned about the antenna, but what I am concerned about is what XM receiver box will work with my car. Will they all work with all radios? I have a 2006 with the Bose system.

I have an '06 touring w/ bose. The cable that the tuner plugs into is tapped underneath the bose amp. The bose amp is on the left side(driver's side) of the spare tire.

Here's a pdf of the install instuctions. For some reason in the instuctions it says that the n-bus cable is on the passenger side. But like I said before it's tapped underneath the bose amp on the driver's side. Let me know if you need anymore help.
