Avic D3 install question...
hey, i asked this in another thread, but it never was responded to so...
when installing the D3, where is the best place to drill for the ipod cable to come through? ( i take it everyone runs it through the top cubby? is there any way to make it look clean and not have a big hole for it to fall through???
anyone have it come through the compartment below their elbows?(that little box)
and finally, are there any installation differences between the 2004 and the 2006??? (disassembly maybe?)
thanks to all!

I would be curious to know this too. My dash kit should be here any day now and then I will be tearing down the dash to install. I am going to look at some of the previous installs by Bing and see if he shows a clean install of iPod cable. If I find one I will post it here and let you know.
I found it, https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....t=avic+d3+ipod
thanks, i think im going to install it in the back cubby behind the drivers seat

why in gods name would you put it behind the drivers seat?? Out the coin box (under your elbos) is a much better place, or even out the cup holder compartment (03-05) if worry about the hole just use a rubber wireharness threadthrough plug ( for lack of real name) like the ones for the cars wires wireharness going through the door-to-body and on the firewall (engine-to-pass compartment).
In regard to the "making a hole small enough for it to fall though", cut the hole large enough to feed the avic connector through. It's kinda square and you can bend it in there with a circular hole. The ipod connecter is thin and wide, and will not fall in.
You can also use a rubber grommet if you just cut it to size.

its not just a snap-plug like the speakers/power-harness that snaps in the back of your H/U?? I would think you should just have to press down on little clamp while at the same time you pull out. Most dash wire harnesses use these snap-plugs for easy take-out.
