New JVC Navi/DVD Double DIN head unit KW-NX7000....thoughts?
Hey everyone. I've been looking for a navi double din head unit for my Z for a while now, but I've been really worried about theft since most face places on them aren't removable (cars get broken into a lot in my area). So I was looking through the Crutchfield catalog the other day and saw that there is a new JVC unit out (or about to come out) that has everything under the sun that you could want, PLUS a detachable face!! Here's the link:

Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I did a search on here and didn't find much of anything about it, so don't flame me! Anyways, there isn't much info on this particular head unit to be found online, so I was wondering if any of you out there have it, know about it, or maybe even already have it in their car. What are your thoughts? It looks pretty promising - has HD/Sat/Bluetooth/ipod/USB/AuxIN/camera/SD card capabilities (most with option add-on adaptors), but also says that steering wheel controls are built in. Not sure how that would work on our Z's. Hard drive is flash-based with internal memory, has text-to-speech, and is updatable via SD card. I like that because it won't take forever for it to fire up or to find directions like some of the other DVD-based navi units do.
Anyways, I'm excited to see what ya'll think about this. I'm gonna hold off on buying one until I read more reviews about it. And spare me the JVC/Kenwood/Pioneer etc. debate crap too. My last head unit was a JVC and I loved it.

oh, and just a quick off-topic question: I have an 06 with Bose, and can I replace the speakers just straight up swap or does the bose system require special crap that you have to do to make it all work. Yeah yeah, search, I know - just thought I'd throw that out there while I'm at it.

A friend of mine was trying to order one of Pioneers new line of head units witch wasn't available due to being a totally new line. so he asked me what do I think about JVC and I replied "I don't think about JVC" I suggested Alpine's IVA-W505 Head unit but he wanted navigation and with the Alpine he would have had to buy a BlackBird portable navigation witch would have brought the price will over $1500! He buys the JVC head unit and installs it. I went by his house the day he installed it and I was blown away with the head unit!!!
First off this is the ONLY double din head unit with a detachable face! when he installed it and powered it up and when to the navigation it already new what area we where in.We road around to see how fast the navigation was and it was dead on point! we set an address and went the wrong way to see how fast it recalculate and it recalculated within a block! the Ipod works great the dvd was sharp and clear. This radio ids a great buy!!!! Cool feature is the proximity censor when you put your hand near the screen the option for what ever source your at the time come up on the screen so you can just touch the option you want to use! Too many things for me to go into....THIS RADIO IS A GREAT BUY!!!! I will be buying one for the Z and one for the daily driver!

can I get some screenshots of it installed?
Maybe some pics with the menu's and home screen too.
Is the splash screen user changable? What about the color of the display? Blue/Amber/Red etc.?
How's the SQ on one of these?

Thanks for your review ETZ! I have also been impressed with JVC's head units in the past, so I'm sure this one is no exception. It's loaded with all sorts of cool features (like the proximity sensor that you mentioned), and it's very reasonably price too (compared to similar options). My biggest selling point over pioneer's AVIC's (which would be my second choice) is the detachable face. I predict that in the coming future everyone else will copy JVC and make theirs removable as well.
Roper, I don't believe that the splash screen is changable. According to the website/manual, there are 4 options to choose from as far as backgrounds are concerned. This doesn't really concern me much - I don't buy a stereo based on what color the buttons are or what background you can put on it. As far as the color of the buttons, they are blue in all the pictures that I've seen.
ETZ, installed pics would be awesome, and let us know how easy/hard the install was!

Oh and also did your friend install any of the optional stuff (bluetooth, HD, XM, Sirius, ipod control, etc) How well do these work (I'm mostly interested in bluetooth). Thanks again!
I didn't take any install pic's. My friend was almost done when I came over.He said the install was very easy ans he didn't hook up any optional stuff due ti his budget at the time. Another cool feature is you cant set the radio to say a greeting and good bye when you power the radio on and off. he paid $925.00 for the unit witch is not bad Crutchfield is selling it for $1099.00 you can use the link below you get more info on the radio.

I say get it if you can. I had the kw-avx800, which this appears to be base on, and loved it. Had alot of features, too many to list. Don't understand all the hate on JVC. Unfortunately, where I previous lived wasn't a great area and it got stolen.
So, I was looking for a unit that was double-din with a detactable face and this is the only one on the market. Plus, the proximity sensor is added safety because monitors light up the interior of your vehicle and theives can tell you have them when you drive by (this is how mine was stolen). With the proximity sensor the screen is dim unless your hand is near the screen.
I been researching this unit for a while now and will be gettting this or the non navi version and doing a separate navi in the cubby. I have a saved catalog somewhere on my computer with alot of info on the unit. I will post it if I can find it.
Here is a pic of the non-navi version but the exterior is the same. the features are just different.

Hi guys, sorry to bring back an old thread.
I've been getting mixed information about the capability of playing video from a usb/sd card slot. CNET says this unit will not play video from the usb/sd slots but other websites say it is possible to watch video from these sources. Can anyone confirm which one is right?
cliffnotes: Can this unit play video from a usb/sd card slot?
