some features that i want the alarm to have are proximity sensors and a pager (that notifies you when your alarm is triggered). any suggestions would be appreciated.

depends on how much you wanna spend

1) I would get it professionally installed first of all...to ensure warranty on the install

2) DEI products have always been praised as quality products, such as Clifford, Viper, Python, etc.

3) Couple of good alarm packages that are essentially the same alarm are the Viper 690 (w/o remote start) 790vx (remote start), clifford matrix rs3, or the Hornet 553T or 554T w/ or w/o remote start.

4) for the viper 790 and matrix rs3, its about 400-500 installed depending where you buy it from

5) Hornet is sold online a lot and sells for about ~150..and you figure about another 200 to install at an installer

6) proximity sensors are usually not recommended unless you have a convertible since you'll always get false triggers when people walk by, birds fly by, etc.

All this info can be found on www.sounddomain.com
They have REALLLY good and knowledgeable people in the SECURITY SENSE forum.

Any way, i'm looking at the matrix rs3, its feature packed and hope to get it installed soon.

Forget about clifford, try Compustar....I have the 2wss-as (which is a pager and car starter). The range is unmatched at 1.25 miles!

hey perucho,
how much was the alarm including installation??? i've never heard of compustar, but from what i read on the link you gave, it sounds pretty good. i'm kinda on a tight budget, so i hope its not too pricey.

ummm...if you are worrying about price then you might not like what I'm about to tell you then. I bought mine for $550 (installed). This alarm is top of the line so it's going to cost a lot. Normally it would cost you like 6-700 installed, but it depends where you go (shop around). Go to the website, get their number and call them so they can tell you where the closest dealer from where you are located. I had to drive 400 miles to get mine installed even though there was one like 2 miles away but they wanted me to pay 700 (and they had the guts to tell me "see if you can find a better deal"). Anyways, good luck!

p.s.--> There is also a less expensive version which costs about $100 less (also a pager and starter).

mgl,
CompuStar alarms are inexpensive itself. But getting it installed professionally thru an authorized dealer and having the warranty intact can get pricey. If you want to go w/ this system, call Allen at SoundSource in Oakland (510) 532-2222, and tell him Marlon set you. He did a very clean install on mine. He took all day to get it done since it's the first Z he's worked on.
