Who said you shouldnt do that?? An aftermarket headunit and speakers will sound much better than the stock bose system but it all depends on your budget....

alpine makes some amazing sounding stuff with little hassle as far as tuning goes. i have a set of type x's in the rear deck on my amp rack and sound great with the jl c5's up front

+1!

You might want to look at alternatives to Alpine for speakers. I love their head units, but you can get better bang for the buck from other companies for speakers/amps/subs.

Check out some of the dedicated car audio forums on the Internet for great places to do research:

you will want to rewire it all, bose sucks

its not much to rewire, 2 wires upfront for components, 2 rear if you want the rear speakers, sub, rca's and amp wires

No… You do not need to run new wiring when replacing the Bose system when replacing with better devices and components. If you replace everything, you can keep the existing wiring (that would be the speaker wiring and power-harnesses).

But there is a reason to consider replacing the wiring: The Bose-upgrade in the Z has super-cheap wiring. When you look at this, you may want to replace it.
