do it right son....
well.... that will totally depend on how aggressive you plan to be with the damping. You might use anywhere from 80 to 150 sq ft or more. and it also depends on if you are layering different types as well.
If you are running a monster audio system, you will need much more deadening to do the job right. If you are just running a low power system its not as critical but many will add more anyhow to help with the noisefloor. (helps to block out road noise, engine & exhaust noise, and of course reflections, resonance and reverberation.)
Sooooo... I will tell you that if you do it right, your system will sound amazing and you will experience the true potential of your components.
just my .02

I used 104 square feet and I could probably use a little more. For the average guy with a decent small system I would say at least 50 square feet (doors and trunk). Roof would be more of course and cabin floor would put you well over 100 sq.ft. As 2006.350ZR said, do it right! If you don't do it right with quality materials (poly-butyl is the best!) then don't even bother doing it. Tar-based cheapie deadener is just a waste of good roofing material.
