dynamat (there are other brands out there at better prices) is just to get rid of the rattles and buzzing in the car. Z's are horrible from the factory with all sorts of annoying noises

I have Focal 165 V Slim component speakers in the stock door mount (tweeters mounted in the A-Pillars). Initially I mounted the speakers and didn’t install any sound deadening in the door. Then I added sound deadening (lining the entire door).
Truthfully I didn’t notice much difference in the speakers’ performance with or without sound deadening. Adding the sound deadening did provide a slight improvement, but I think the main advantage of using sound deadening was lowering noise from outside the door (the car itself). Please be advised that I was mounting the speakers in the OEM position.
The most advantageous place to add sound deadening in a Z (my experience is with the coupe) is in the rear floor/cargo area, around the rear wheel-wells, and the structure behind the seats. And, that’s mostly to kill the awful road noise you get with a coupe (that is really a mini station wagon with the rear wheels inside the car).
