Default Installing Headunit Guide?

I have a single-din steroe that i'd like to install, but I see no guide for it. Does anyone have any websites and such that shows me how to remove the stock stereo?

Sorry but there isnt. It would be nice if other people would share their audio/video installs in this forum. That way we could search through old posts to get ideas. Good luck on it though!

Yes, there is a guide in DIY section in thread: https://my350z.com/forum/audio-video...y-monitor.html

There is also another guide floating around somewhere on these forums and there is also another one on 350z tech website.

Wow much thanks for all the guides.
Someone is quoting me $50 for the install so I'd like to give it a try before paying since some ppl said it took about less than 1 hr to complete...

Just looked thru the tutorial here: http://www.*********.com/zwiki/Head_Unit_Installation and have a few quick questions:

1.) What dash kit and harness do I use for 07+ Z's since it only lists up to 2006? (http://www.*********.com/zwiki/Categ...nd_Electronics)

2.) I can either buy a brand new wire harness, or use the OEM one and solder it, correct?

I have an 08 and this is the dash kit that you need to buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300283650237

They changed the dash in 2006 so 2006-2008 uses the same dash kit which is Metra 99-7602 and buy it from this buyer who combines shipping... so you can also buy the harness which is few bucks and this kit... and request an invoice from the buyer and then he will send you invoice over eBay with one shipping charge for both items which will save you few bucks.

Do not splice into the OEM harness and do not pay anyone to do it... it's fairly easy to do excep that you will get frustrated when you can't disconnect some harnesses that you need to disconnect in order to take the dash out.. but it's not biggie.. just be patient and you'll disconnect them... I'd say it takes an hour all together if you are doing it with a buddy. Just make sure you get a magnetic phillips head screw driver or you might loose the screws forever.

Thanks. Which Metra wire harness would I need to buy if I'm only installing an aftermarket single-din stereo? I'm on www.metraonline.com right now and there are so many different wire harnesses.

Harness is same for single or double din and the harness was same for earlier model Zs as well. I bought my cd player from the guy that has 2004 Z and the harness fit perfectly... so put your year make and model of the car at the website and it will tell you which metra model # wire harness you need... once you get the model #... search it at that guy's ebay store. good luck

Is the wire harness 70-7550? There are harnesses for car, radio, and amplifier.
Also, that guy doesn't have the harness anymore in his ebay store

There are 2 harnesses from what I know, one is into the car, and the other one is into the radio. I heard that the car will lose its XM capability if stock radio is removed, so I'd like to know if radio harness is necessary as well if I don't plan on getting aftermarket radio.

Here's the part #:
Metra 70-7550
Metra 71-7550.

Thanks......!!!

It looks like you still do not have the answers you need so I thought I would give you a heads up on why. Every question you have asked is not only insanely easy to figure out, they are also topics that have been discussed numerous times and at great length. Over 200 people have looked at this thread and I guarantee that many of them (including me) know the answers but just don't want to spoon feed it to you when there is no evidence that you have put forth one ounce of effort with the exception asking us to find it for you.

Have you done any of these?:

1. Performed a search in this forum for 'wire harnes'.

2. Called or emailed anyone at metraonline.com when you couldn't find what you needed on their site?

3. Visited your local audio install shop, tell them what you wanted and purchased product(s).

4. Searched a site like Crutchfield that has live sales support who can tell you exactly what you need.

I am starting to think if you can't handle simple things like an install guide, wire harness or dash kit then maybe this is too much for you to undertake. But I am not trying to be a jerk so I will help you out. If you perform anyone one of those things I metioned and still can't get an answer then I will gladly go in my garage and dig through a box to find the original plastic with the part number you need.

Now for your satellite question is a good one. From what I remember the OEM H/U has the XM receiver built in so you would loose that. I assume your aftermarket H/U is satellite ready. You would just need to buy an XM or Sirius receiver that is compatible with your particular H/U.
