Default aux input confusion

Ok, I apologize in advance if this has been beat to death before, but I had trouble finding a definitive answer using "search." Soundgate makes an aux in adapter that works on base Z's up to 05 according to their site. My 08 has the base stereo and is not listed to work. However, I have compared the back of the two stereos and the plugs are the exact same....so how would it not work? Any input or anyone tried? I really dont want a new headunit. I should clarify, I am comparing a base stereo 05 to a base stereo 08....

What adapter are you talking about? This is the only one I found on their site.

What do you need the aux for? iPod? Zune? or just a regular mp3 player/audio device?

I am looking to play my ipod....I dont want to go the fm modulator route. USA Spec makes one that should work.....(they say it works for an 07 w/o sat controls.....which would be the base stereo). I am sure if it works on the 07 it would work on the 08, but I have not found a definitive answer whether any of these will actually work.

Ok, so I bit the bullet and bought the USA SPEC kit. This kit has both an ipod dock cable and aux input and plugs into the back for the radio and mimics a cd changer. So, if anyone is wondering, this kit works on an 06-08 non bose headunit. It took me about an hour to install and I ran the dock cable to the small cubby behind the driver seat where my ipod stays hidden. I can control the ipod from the headunit so no need to see it. Upgrading to an aftermarket deck would have been better, but I really wanted to keep the stock look....at least for awhile.

I have a non-Bose HU w/ steering wheel controls, and I want the same kit for the same reasons. Do you have steering wheel controls and if so does it work with them? So on all those sites it says you must have the cd changer (which i don't) and you say it still works? Post up some pics if you could. Thanks.

This is the exact model I got: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=701 . Steering controls would still work because the radio controls still work. Install is easy, just take your time. There are excellent write ups on how to take the dash apart and then the unit just plugs into the back of the radio. Like I said, it is not listed to work on an 08 with the base hu, but it does.

I've had it installed in my 08 NISMO for a few weeks now, does exactly what I want and I love it! Thanks for input.

I don't see why not. All it does is mimic a cd changer on the factory HU.

Bump for a great product. This thing still works like a champ 4 years later and is still a great solution for anyone looking to listen to their IPOD via the factory HU.

+1 on USA Spec, but it doesn't work well at all with the lightning to old iPod cable adapter.
