Default Questions for sound gurus

I have an enthusiast CS. So it has the Clarion sound system. I'm looking for minimal upgrades that will improve sound quality. I figure some better speakers should be sufficient. I was thinking of using 2-ways up front.

A few questions:

1. Are the 6.5" speakers (midbass) up front the same as the rear?
I was thinking perhaps moving the front ones to the back to keep the midbass. If I'm not mistaken, the rears are full range.

2. What brands/models of speakers are recommended? I've noticed some people used Infiniti speakers to upgrade the stocks ones. Does this sound like the best way to go?

3. For people that have replaced all 4 speakers, was there any bass loss compared to the stock speakers?

I'm not an expert in this area, so pardon my ignorance.

actually, they look the same to me when i took them out and looked at them for 3 seconds before chucking them into the trash. the HU is the root of all evil, if you dont mind spending a little more for a lot better sounds...start with a HU and invest in some decent speakers. speakers and HU can be had for 4-500 for a decent combo.

and to tell you the truth, the old speakers dont have bass at all...it all sounded MUDDY to me.

whats your budget to get good sound?

Thanks for the info. In that case, I should be looking for a decent HU and new speakers. There is only one reason why I'm reluctant to change the HU; the dash just doesn't look good with a aftermarket unit. When you look inside the Z everything just looks clean and together. With an aftermarket HU, it sticks out like a sore thumb. But I guess this is a trade-off for good sound.

I have found that the best looking head unit in the 350Z is the Eclipse 3413. Its minimal in design, has matching brushed aluminum accents, plays MP3's, has great quality - 3 sets of RCA outs, etc.

I just got mine. Only downside is the illumination is blue. But I am going to try and redo the LEDs so that they are amber.

I'll post pics of my install once my Eclipse in-dash 6 disk changer arrives. That is what I think is the secret to a good looking install - making a clean 2Din appearance.

Thanks.

After some searching, I've narrowed it down to Nakamichi, Eclipse, and Alpine. It looks like most recommend these 3.

The Nakamichi looks like a good choice. Looks very plain and has good sound quality. I'm not looking for a bunch of features or good looks. I just want better sound quality without having to run an amp.

jor8888: Great info on the old housing. I'll keep that in mind.

If you want sound quality, go for the eclipse.

I'm probably going to get Infinity Kappas.

What's better overall in the Z? Components, 2 ways, or 3 ways? Do I even need to replace the rears since they are only fills?
