Help w/ system in sub hole! Thanks !!! =D
Hey guys I am new to this whole forum thing so please forgive me if I make any mistakes...
Anyways I have an 07' 350z Enthusiast (No bose system, stock HU)
I want to put a JL 10w7 in the sub hole behind the driver's seat. I have been doing some research and apparently it may not fit or may not have enough room for air? I plan on buying some dynomat and just plastering it in the space behind the hole. I dont know what it means to dynomat the whole trunk, but is this really necessary? and how would one go about doing this?
I really want toput in the 10W7 but if it doesn't fit ill be content with the 10w6v2 or the 10w3v3.
Anyways my questions are...
Will it be ok to mount a 10w7 in the stock sub hole?
Will the JL G-Max be good for the 10w7? (I.E. is it too much or too little)
Will my stock alternator be able to handle it? (110 amp stock alternator)
How should I dynomat the trunk?
On all my other cars I have had after market HU, but I plan on keeping the stock on this one, is the sound quality horrible if I use that kit that allows you to plug rcas into your stock HU? What are the pro's and cons?
If the 10w7 doesn't work, do you have another sub you would reccomend? I want to match brands (I.E. JL sub w/ JL amp) and the only brands I am interested in is JL, MTX, Kicker, and Alpine (In that order) I also want to get the biggest sub I can w/o having to upgrade the alt, but I dont want to be pushing it just near it (I.E. 800 watt limit I would go with 650)
I appreciate all the help! If you guys are ever in DFW just hit me up...

DUDE way to much thinking for one post.
1. Just buy a custom box for a ten then match the subs power number and specs (RMS & ohms) with amp of slightly lesser power. Longevity is key IMO.
2. Everything else is fine with 1 10". Dynomat is not necessary with a single ten and its basically a rubber pad that stops sound and vibration. Alternator is fine also with a 10".
3. Do no attempt a custom job unless you plan on dropping bank on it. On this kind of stuff cheap=**** expensive=nice.
I dont really know why i took the time to answer this question. You can search and find all of this.

I'm not really sure where to start, but here goes...
First of, your alternator has nothing to do directly with your subwoofer. Certainly if you plan on installing a W7 anywhere within your car you will need to use an amplifier to power it. The max current draw of your amplifier in conjunction of all of your additional stereo equipment will be a huge factor in whether or not it is advised that you upgrade your alternator or cut down your system. It looks like the amp you are using utilizes an 80amp fuse so technically you should be ok if thats all your going to run, but I'd advise you to also do the "big 3" at the very least.
Secondly, I really doubt a 10w7 will fit in the stock sub location without custom modifications on the area behind the driver's seat. I do know for sure that a w7 or any sub for that matter will sound like poop in the stock location unless you build a custom enclosure for it and then place it within the cavity for the stock sub. Even then it might not sound that great acoustically but I can't say for sure as I've never heard a sub with a proper enclosure in that location.
Third, as far as dynamating its really up to you as to where and what you want to dynamat. One thing is for sure is a 10w7 in a proper enclosure with the recommended power going to it has the potential to wreak havoc on the all plastic interior of a Z. You may be able to live with it, I know that I could not.
Lastly, the stock headunit with the stock speakers and a 10w7 will sound like poop to put it nicely. Do yourself a favor and at least upgrade your front speakers (remove your rears all together) and splurge on a headunit if you can afford to. As far as suggestions, no one can make suggestions for you until you provide your goals, your budget and your preferences.
I'm sure, I've left out some important things so anyone else can feel free to fill in the blanks for me.

i was able to put a 10in infinity sub and a 750.1 kicker amp in the sub box.I used foam fill and dynomat for all the holes and dynomated the sub bracket, because it was bugging the hell out of me.The only problem i have is my amp will shut off due to poor air circulation, so i think i may put a cooling fan in the near future.

I decided to buy an amp (JL 500/1) and try and match a sub and go from there
Down - sounds like a good set up, I know what you mean about the amp
I just got a JL 500/1 for $200!!! Gotta love CL. Anyways I am going to try and put it back there also... I would love to see some pics if you get that fan going
Also... what is foam fill, and what does it do? Can i get it at bestbuy?
Chaser - sry about the long replied, I am just meticulous about my work, anyways hope this reply wasn't too long either lol
Try - Yea that is a bit overkill but it would be freaking awesome! I've seen someone put 2 10' in the stock location with a custom box (maybe it was 2 8's) but it was nice as hell, GL w/ that and I wouldn't mind seeing some pics if you ever go through with it!

Having a subwoofer behind the seat is a terrible place for it. Bass waves need space to travel and frankly, 10-12 inches is not nearly enough unless your frequencies are above 80 hz. Then it will just sound like feces.
Under the strut tower bar facing the rear or facing upwards in the trunk area is your best bet. The space behind the driver's seat is good for um....nothing!

I've built a custom sub box for my Z. I can tell you that the sub will sound horrible if it was facing the front. I had my sub box put in right before the tower strut facing front. It sounded shitty. I had to make another box to make it facing the back window to have a better accoustic. If you were to put it on the stock location of the Bose sub, it would not have a full boomy sound.
For those that have put it into their stock location of the Bose sub, how did it sound? FYI, I have 2 10" Cerwin Vega Stokers (30 lbs each) and they still sound awful when facing the front.
