My $100 like OEM fit NAVIGATION setup
Have you used other navigation systems? If so, how does this one compare?
Center Channel/Single Din in center console has been done before...

P.S. Take note at how old those threads are. There are very few things that we can think of at this point that has not been thought of or done at some point with this car.

The VXA-2100 has very close dimensions to the infamous Farenheit LCD monitor so the install is exactly the same. I used 3M double sided tape (red film) around the frame and attached it through the back.
The touchscreen is very good on this unit, reacts to simple fingernail taps so it wont push back unless you press it hard like a retard. You will crack the screen before the unit falls off.
Here is a video i found during my researching days:

Does this set up (either as-is or your modded version) have lane guidance? How's the actual routing (detour, adding poi, route recalculation, etc) of the navigation? Also, are all the buttons, slots, etc accessible the way you have it in the cubby? Lastly, any and all information regarding your install would be appreciated.
Here is a link to the navigation software. It has buildings and all its really sweet!

Since you have a single DIN headunit, you could get one of these:
Alpine SBS-05DC Car Audio Center Channel Speaker
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...mpaign=froogle

And power it with something cheap and small like this:
Pyramid PB440X Super Blue 2x35W Amplifier
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=265-079

The amp should be small enough to tuck away under the seat for ease of installation and you will have a dedicated center channel speaker for your navigation for around $155. Worth every penny if you rely on the voice guidance a lot. The amp doesn't say it's bridgeable, but you can run just 1 channel.
hmmmmm, now you got me thinking........

I dont want to use the center speaker as i use the slot to hold my phones and wallet.
The Alpine SBS-0715 he mentioned in post 17.
You wont need to switch anything.....the speaker will sound out voice guidance, about the only thing you will need to do is lower your radio volume to hear the nav......but not switch sources.....
I'm using an Alpine SBS-0715 with the amplifier and speaker mounted underneath my dash for the voice guidance for my OEM navigation system. I had to do this since this there is no "mute" type feature on my Mcintosh headunit.
I think the unit I used is discontinued though, but it is perfect.

First off, great work...especially with the software update.
I am running the fahrenheit/Garmin combo now, but everyday I wish it was a touch screen. I may pick this up and give it a try. A few questions, though if you don't mind...
On the Garmin, there is a mute wire so that the music from my aftermarket deck is muted when the GPS needs to say something. Does this unit have a mute wire? Is the audio out a headphone jack or RCA's?
How long does the unit take to boot up? Is there a way to bypass the warning screens and go straight to the navigation screen?
How long does it typically take to pick up a GPS signal?
When moving, how is the refresh rate on the GPS? I know some systems get notchy when driving around.
If you have used other GPS systems (portable, or OEM) how does this compare as far as interface, looks and map updates?
That link you posted with the software, will this device run that new version?
Thanks for the info, again great work.

There is no mute button, the "audio out" is RCA's. The RCA is connected to my headunit "line-in" so i have either music only or navi voice guidance only. So on long trips if the navi has nothing to say then its just silence
How long does the unit take to boot up? Is there a way to bypass the warning screens and go straight to the navigation screen? I'm sure you can tweek the program (Win CE) to do what ever you want. But i havent been able to bypass this. Everytime it shuts off, it will go to the main screen and i have to click the NAVIGATION icon. Its pretty quick to load.
How long does it typically take to pick up a GPS signal? The GPS is very fast, usually when its started up it already has full strength signals
When moving, how is the refresh rate on the GPS? I know some systems get notchy when driving around. Its not notchy, pretty smooth
If you have used other GPS systems (portable, or OEM) how does this compare as far as interface, looks and map updates?I dont have much experience with other, I just had a PNA Mio unit. Can't really do a comparo though.
That link you posted with the software, will this device run that new version? You can run any GPS software you'd like. You just need to code it so the software can read it. Lots of people are using iGuidance and other popular navi programs successfully on the VXA-2100/3000

Hey thanks a bunch for answering the questions. Looks like I'm going to be searching for one of these and unloading my Farenheit/Garmin combo!
On a side note....if you are using RCA's to power your speakers (some wiring harnesses use them) then you could buy a splitter and wire the sound from the GPS directly to either your front or rear speakers and have the voice come out of them. It would not mute the music (voice would talk over), but better than an extra speaker. Quite a few OEM setups use something like this.
