What PAC iPod or Aux adapter will work on a 06 roadster w/ bose?
And before you tell me "run a search idiot, you'll find the answer," I already have and what I'm seeing is a lot of questions, but not many detailed responses / answers! Most them just say "do a search." If you know of a good thread please let me know and sorry if I've overlooked it : )
I have an 06 roadster w/ the bose 6-Cd in-dash changer. Per the manual, these systems are satelite-ready (i.e., if satelite is hooked up you use the RADIO button to cycle to the sat function).
What I want is, just like everyone else, to use my iPod or iPhone's audio through the head unit. Controlling it via the head unit would be nice but not essential. I'd settle for just having a general-purpose auxilary input of some type and go with a double-male stereo cable from the iPod's headphone jack to the aux input. Probably doesn't sound as good as a true interface but better than nothing.
PAC makes several interfaces that claim to work with this car but all say "Radio must have a "SAT" button or have "CH", "CHANNEL", "CAT" or "CATEGORY" printed somewhere on the face of the radio to be compatible..." This radio doesn't have any of those, the manual says you just use RADIO button to cycle over to the sat function IF you have satelite installed. PAC makes models:
(1) aPAC-NIS1, which is an auxilary input interface
(2) AAI-NIS2, which is also an auxilary input interface
(3) uPAC-NIS1, which is an aux interface but also iPod interface, meaning you can actually control the iPod via the radio.
You would think one of these would surely work but I've had 2 different local installers swear that this is one of the few vehicles for which there's no good aux solution (my luck) and that these really won't work unless the button specifically says SAT...
Has anyone else installed any of these PAC adapters in your 06 with the bose system and if so how did it turn out? Did you lose the functionality of your steering wheel buttons? Or did you perhaps require another adapter to make that work? (PAC makes those as well).
THANKS!!
Chad

I have the "USA Spec iPod® Interface" but mine is for non-bose. I got it from crutchfield.com and they new what I needed. It works with ipod or iphone. If you use an iphone to play music it will lower the music when you get a phone call. Also you can control it from your ipod/iphone or from the head unit. It charges it too. Prolly the most my favorite mod so far. GL

Another question - since it goes through the FM antenna input and has an FM modulator, do you need to tune into an FM station like the old CD players, current satellite radios, etc.? We have had very little luck with finding frequencies that aren't broadcasted during our commute.

uPAC-NIS1 is garbage. Read my other posts on it. I'd be VERY hesitant to purchase anything from Pacific Audio after all the crap I've been through with their products. There really is no "good" solution to tap into the factory BOSE system. I'm using a JL Audio CleanSweep interface, which sounds great, but it's a pain in the *** to install and definitely has it's share of limitations as well.
"Charges the iPod No" ? ? ?

1. You have to press the CD button for it to start.
2. Buttons 1-5 are set for 5 different playlists of your choice (on itunes)
3. Button 6 allows you to use ipod/iphone controls instead of headunit controls.
4. The sound quality is as good as a cd due to how much louder than the radio it is.
It's very practical and easy to use. I strongly recomend this mod. I was afraid to get the wrong interface for my headunit but after describing it to the crutchfield guy he confirmed it was the right one. Hope this helps.
I couldn't find a good one either so I chose to just replace the head unit and couldn't be happier:
