Default Help me!! My Speakers are going out...!

I have an 03 Touring with Bose System and I've been having an issue I think I just made worse today, and can really use the forums' expertise in the issue.

My speakers on the driver's side seem to have been shorting out for a couple months and just giving the kneepad a love tap has done the trick until this morning when doing it left my whole left side of my car without sound completely. It seems as though it's a short of some kind, but I can't seem to locate it.

Has anyone hear experienced the same thing??

Is it the amp, the speakers or the head unit that's causing the problem and how can I fix it without changing the head unit and speakers??

Thanks in advance for your responses!!

Troubleshooting the Bose system is a headache.

Door speakers are powered by the amplifier. Line level signal is from the head unit. Without the proper instrument to look at the signal, diagnosing the culprit is a guess at best.

You are experiencing a common problem with the OEM Bose CES. Do a search on this Forum to discover a previous discussion of the problem.

Just replace them with better ones all together.

…Not a bad idea since the OEM Bose speakers are lame.

But… I’m not sure it’s just a simple matter of speaker replacement when the Z is "Bose-equipped."

I had this same problem in my 04. I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer one and the problem disappeared. Maybe the head unit?

I'd replace the headunit and wire the speakers directly to the head unit.

I'd probably check the marketplace on here and look for a used bose head unit that can be had for probably dirt cheap and see if that fixes your problem. If not, start saving some bucks to replace the head unit and toss some new speakers in while you are at it. You will fix your problems and get way better sound.

Mysttkal, I've had the same problem with my car just about to a T. My driver side door speaker goes in and out. I can take a hard turn and it will come back in, or I can hit the brakes hard and its gone again. I even got to a point where I could play with the momentum of the car using the gas or brake to get the speaker to come back on. HOW DID I KNOW IT WAS THE HEADUNITS FAULT???

The speaker only would go out when I was playing a CD. The radio always plays perfectly. I'm sure that when I replace the Bose unit with a aftermaket, the problem will be solved.
