That lady in the demo is freakin hot!!!... I don't think you'll need anything but the viper system itself... If you already have a remote start on your car you'll only need 1 part of the system... as far as a bypass for AT, they really only use that for MT's to make sure it wont start if the car is in gear(which MT shouldn't have remote start in the first place). I'm not sure if that is what you meant by "bypass", but some car companies added security features to the stock alarm systems... For example GM has V.A.T.S.(Vehicle Anti-Theft System) and it consists of a resistor in the middle of your key which cotrols the fuel pump I believe... So if a key with the wrong resistor vaule is inserted the car will not start... When I had my Camaro and I put remote start on it, I had to use a resistor with the same value as my key under the dash in-line with the fuel pump wire so the remote start can function properly... I hope some of this has helped, and if not, you can always go to a trustworthy shop or an authorized dealer and they can point you in the right direction...

i been looking everywhere for this thing... ebay, google, amazon...i cant find it anywhere but Best Buy!
ahh ok, I think he needs to bypass the stock alarm with an interface module... See our cars come with an alarm regardless if you have the remote or not... but damn 150? thats alot... honestly you can probably find a cheaper(price wise) alarm from viper with almost all of the same fucntions... I think that this system is only good if really wanna use you iphone/ipod as a remote... I think you should really do some research on Viper alarms and find out what functions you really need out out of your alarm...I.E: Lock/unlock, Trunk pop, Remote start, Upgrade remote from 4/5 button to LCD with pager, Viper even offers a service kind of like OnStar where if you lock your keys in your car, all you do is call Viper and they unlock it for you via satelite. The same service also offers for you to remote start your car by actually calling a number and it will start from anywhere(and I mean anywhere-from 1 sate to another)... Trust me bro, if you do your research you can get a Viper with all the features if not more than the smart start for 1/2 the price... Also I dont think for an 03 you need an interface module but if you do, SHOP AROUND!!!!! $150 is waaayyy too much.
I hope this helps, if not pm me and I will try to help you out...GL

Im 99.9% sure you need a transponder bypass for the remote start. I know for a fact you need it for any compustar and clifford. Once you have it you flash it on the computer via USB to your car and it will bypass the key when remote starting from the remote. The computer must see the keys transponder code to start, which the transponder takes over for. Im not a huge fan of viper. If you want all the bells and whistles possible, go with the Clifford G5, probably the best alarm/RS out there. Everything is controlled by the computer as well when setting up the system.
You can get a DEI 556U for $20 on Ebay - not sure where you came up with $150.
The '03 350Z uses the standard Japanese transponder system. The drawback to the 556U is you need to give up a key (like the valet key) but for the price you can't beat it. For around $50 you should be able to find a bypass that will bypass the OEM system without losing a key.
It will be interesting to see how long the service for the Smart Start system is supported. I, personally, see this as being a big flop. Hopefully they were smart enough to not use a dedicated service that they have to support themselves. If they do provide the cellular service I can see them dropping it after 12-18 months when they don't have enough people willing to pay an annual fee just to be able to use their IPhone!

I think your right... I think this system is gonna flop... it's basically pointless... anything that you can do with your iphone you can do with a basic remote... On top of the annual fee you gotta pay...

dammit!!!! u guys are soooooooo convincing! i think im gonna pass on this now that u mention the "flop"...its bad enough it costs $500 for a remote start then $30 a yr on top of that is a bunch of BS...thanks guys!
I agree with everyone here. I have been researching this like crazy and I'm on the brink of getting it. My only issue is that will I still *need* to carry my key to actually drive. There is a lock out function that if you remote start the car, and someone jumps in it, it will kill the ignition when they hit the brake. So does that mean I will start my car remotely, then have to insert the key? If that is the case, it seems pointless since I have to carry my keys anyway and I already have keyless entry stock. Sure, remote start would be nice on cold winter mornings but I can freeze for the 20 seconds it will take to start my car and run back inside.
As far as cost goes, that is an issue. What was driving me was my insurance company would give me a $10 a month discount for an upgraded alarm. Since the first year of service is free, the insurance discount would pay for the module the first year then the subsequent savings would cover the $30 a year service a few times over. Sure, I have to pony up $150 now, but it would benefit me in the long run. That's my way of justifying the cost at least.
Another feature I would like clarity on is the window mdule. If I can roll down my window with the iPhone app in addition to the other features, that would likely sell me on it. I would really like to see this thing in action before committing to buying it.
You have to admit though, despite the cost, this is freakin' sweet.

Yes, you will still need your key (just like any other remote start system). You will have to insert it and turn it to the "RUN" position before stepping on the brake, reving the car to over ~3500RPM, or before the timer runs out, other wise the car will shut off. You would also need your key (anyways) in case your battery died or you lost/forgot your phone somewhere.
I'm not sure about the windows - I have never seen one in action. You should be able to control the windows (both up and down) with an aftermarket alarm (as long as it was installed correctly). You would just have to verify that the Iphone app has the capability to control the AUX functions. If I remember correctly the IPhon app can do anything the remote can do, so you should be able to do the windows from your phone.

Thanks for the info, KPierson. It seems a little redundant to start the car, and then engage the key again. I imagine the window module would work on the iPhone. Again, it seems strange since the Z has the window down function when you turn the key to the right for 2 seconds. I think the product is great, but I don't know how beneficial it will be since the Z has so many related features already stock. I'm still on the fence since it seems pretty cool. Maybe I'll make a decision before Christmas. It would be awesome ,if anyone here has it, to make a YouTube video demonstrating it on a Z.
