Bought a Magellan 1700 GPS 7 inch screen fits in Cubby
I uploaded a video of an instance on youtube:
So this doesn't always happen like this, usually it'll flicker then just shut off completely, and it won't come on until I unplug the power(or turn off the car) and turn it back on.
This happens, say,...one in 10 times I turn the car on? it's pretty annoying and I feel it may be damaging the unit, but I'm not sure how to prevent it.
Has anyone had this happen with their hardwired gps?

To update the maps and software: You download an application from Magellan, and then use a USB connector between the Magellan 1700 and your computer.
The Lifetime Map Update Subscription costs $99.00

As spike stated, updating maps is as easy as downloading the magellan desktop software and connecting the unit to your PC.
Btw, I fixed the stuttering issue in my video post above by hardwiring the unit to the check engine light fuse as it provides constant power through the startup.

Doesn't the 1700 have to be shaved down around the sides or did I read wrong again lol.
Also ultimate fail on my part, forgot to buy the necessary 3.5mm 4pole av-in with rca adapter for the backup camera.
I thought I had all the parts just waiting for install since January, so annoyed right now lol.

Need some help,
Installed the 1700, bought a 12v socket and planning to use the cig adapter it came with.
Anyways tapped into radio 12v( yellow) for power and grounded to chassis. However the unit doesn't power on automatically, just flashes it's light. I have also lost all radio power.
Works fine in the 12v behind the seat. Didn't want to tap into cig lighter because my dash cam is hardwired
in with a add a fuse.
Fuses are all good, what should I look for?

Hmmm… The yellow wire you tapped might be a constant power line. Using the yellow wire should provide power to the GPS, but you could drain the battery. I would make certain the power wire you connect to the device is IGN switched.
You are correct, yellow is constant 12v.
Have it hooked up to what I believe is the switched 12v, but am now having the same flickering line problems as /2iceman.
Will try going to cel light, can you explain in more detail how you wired it? Did you use a add-a-circuit? Is the last fuse in the footwell, upper left corner right?
