Looks nice, can we get a pic with the cubby closed?

Also, how much did you pay?

Please tell me that you will be removing it when not in use, otherwise I hope you have limo tinted windows.

Is it only the power cord and its plug-in position that prevents the cubby door from closing?

Yeah off course it takes 10 secs to remove from the chubby and i store it in the glovebox.I made a small base behind the navigation for it to stay firm in the compartment and not fall during spirited driving .

^^ Darn... But if it only takes seconds to dismount and hide, it's a good solution.

It sure looks good. Nice job!

yay I got one when best buy had them on sale!!! I just ordered the "06 Nav dash piece" and I will try to mount it and make it look stock..... I will post with pics when I get all the pieces One thing that makes it work is it auto shut off without unpluging or turning a switch off "JEKL" gave me the idea.

I did this same thing with a Garmin Nuvi 5000, although I had to cut out part of the bottom of the cubby... I was able to get the top pushed in a bit to close the door, and I ran the wire behind the stereo deck and down under the center console to the power on the rear firewall.

Not nearly as pretty as a stock nav but it functions waaaay better, not to mention is a lot faster. I've played with stock nav and it sucks...

Garmin also makes a 7" GPS unit, StreetPilot 7200. Was thinking of doing a clean install in a 05 using 03 cubby. I think that's the best option if your keeping the stock radio to try and attempt a factory look. If I was you I would find someone or if your up to it, to take apart the navi and install it like people install carputers/7" screens in the cubby. Then while your at it hardwire the unit. That would also fix your problem of closing the cover.

So I don't create another thread on the same subject.... Here is my build so far. I am still collecting everything that I need.....

-60mm STRI gauges to replace all three stock gauges. (Boost, Oil Temp, Oil Pres)
-06+ Nav dash
-Magellan 1700 GPS
-Pioneer AVH-P4200

STRI gauges

06+ dash

Magellan laid in opening to see how it fits.......

It fits GREAT!!!

Now onto mounting the gauges.... at first I did not think that they would fit.... but i proceded to take the silver rings out by just pulling back then twisting them. They will come out with out breaking

Then I unscrewed these screws to give just enough play to push the gauges in....

Then re-screw the bezel back in....

Then just sit the gauge in with the top part already started and push it the rest of the way in... Its a tight fit but they will slide in with a bit of persuasion.

To hold the screen in, (idk if this is ghetto but) I used some pipe hanger and some of that stuff that the girlfriend uses to stop stuff from sliding around (bubbly rubber stuff???!!!) and put that inbetween the GPS and the pipe hanger

The project so far.....

Interesting the screen looks good in there... Did you notice though how washed out the Magellan screen looks in sun light though ? Gotta keep tilting my neck to get a good view sometimes during the day..
I now currently saving up for a total system overhaul...

I just ordered one as well. I will try to post up pics of the install. Amazon has them for about $210 + shipping.

It will be going into a 2003 Enthusiast with the retractable cubby, so we will see how that goes.

Blck350z, Looks good, but…

How will you access the Megellan to install map updates and application software updates?

Maybe through the lower finishing piece?

Spike...
The "control panel" for the stock nav easily lifts out and you may access the underside of the GPS easily... at least thats my plan so far haha

Kham25...
With the screen being recessed... it does not wash out that much.... I'll let everyone know how it is when as I use it more ( It is temp mounted to see if it works well and see if it moves/slides at all... )

This is def. more cost effective than the stock Nav unit... so far anyway

Thanks for the comments guys!!!
