You said: “[[‘]m more inter[e]sted in how well the navigation works.”
So…I’ll keep my comments to navigation, and the systems I’ve personally used (Alpine, Kenwood (OEM Garmin), and Pioneer).
Map Detail/Display
If you like a very detailed map that has a “Rand McNally-like” appearance, you will like the Pioneer best. Alpine is second with a somewhat less rich display, and Kenwood (OEM Garmin) has a more animated-like map. There is a compromise when displaying more detail, and that is performance (more about that later in this post).
Application Software (Interface)
Kenwood (OEM Garmin) is the clear winner here. Although Kenwood offers a plethora of features, operation is very intuitive. I cannot say the same for either Alpine of Pioneer (both have esoteric operations that require a significant learning curve to take advantage of more sophisticated features).
Performance (map redrawing, route guidance, etc.)
Kenwood (driven by Garmin software) has the advantage. Maps redraw more quickly, detours and re-routes are much faster, and about every function is faster with the Garmin software. Alpine is a distant second, and Pioneer comes up pretty slow in comparison to Garmin.
In Summary
Kenwood (OEM Garmin) is my favorite for its simple yet feature-rich interface, and its fast performance. I like Alpine for its great hardware (excellent LCD screen and great rearview camera with super-cool integrated software). Pioneer is my third choice. Pioneer has a wonderfully rich map display, but it’s just too slow for my liking.
Of course these are personal opinions that someone else may not agree with.

although that site does have extremely good pricing id try google shopping just to explore some alternatives. it may save you some money and its layed out pretty well showing tax, shipping and all that good stuff.
What ever you do, do NOT buy the Clarion NX-409! I could rant forever about how much this unit fails in every possible way. But to the point, the nav sucks. You can not hear it, even on max volume. It takes forever to load/relocate, and is inaccurate as to where you are on the road exactly. Furthermore it is in no way 'user friendly'. I'll leave it at that.

I won’t add anything to your comments except to say I totally agree with you.
I really like Clarion H/U’s (especially the single-din models), but I do not like Clarion GPS units. I can only speculate why Nissan chooses such a weak GPS device as the OEM device installed in Nissan and Infiniti cars.
