Remote starter ??
For those with remote starter on their Z, How can that work? I mean to start the car don't you need the key to disable the security? If you can just bypass it then the security system for the key is pretty much useless since thieves can bypass it too.
the "simple" way is first, if its a manual you have to bypass the clutch sensor, normally the car wont start without the clutch depressed to protect you from starting the car in gear. this is dangerous on many levels, cause you cant park in gear if you plan to start it, and if you do park in gear and start it itll take off.
second for the security aspect, typicly you place a spare key or just the top of it in the steering shaft, near the ignition. and yes this would bypass that part of the security.

having a remote start on a manual is pretty risky.
take what ares said then add that it makes it waaaay easier for some punk to break in and start your car without any sort of key or starter device. not worth it imo. i mean, you put your car at risk of driving off for what? the extra 15 seconds of warm up time before you get in the car?

well I wasn't refering so much to manual, just remote start for the Z in general. Thats just insane putting your spare key there to bypass the security. Isn't the key like 40 bux or so for a replacement?

If you put a key in there, the Z can be "hotwired" as easily as a 1977 Pinto. Easier if the crook finds the hidden key.
Ah, ok I found the answer to my question.
The remote start alarms uses a bypass module. not 100% postive on how it works, but from what I know it stores the key's rf code. So when you remote start, the module transmit the code (like what the key does) and allows the car to start. It will only transmit the code when remote start is used so if someone brakes in, they still can't start the car.

I have a remote starter on my 6MT. They have remote starters out there that will not start a manual car if it is left in gear. Also, there are high end remote starters that work in conjunction with the transponder key. So the key will only get bypassed if you remote start the car. If you do not remote start the car, the security system is the same as factory.
While it may be less secure if you do remote start the car, the theif would have to steal your car from the moment you hit the button to the time you walk up to your car. ALso, when in remote start mode, there are sensors in the ignition which disable the engine if it is tampered with. I'm not saying its theft-proof at that point, but its added security and not as "dangerous" as some people make it out to be.
Autopage, Clifford, and I beleive Viper have remote starters that work with the security features of the transponder key. I have the autopage remote starter.

I had one install in another car (self install). But if you remote start a thief can't steal your car. Cause if the key is not in and you hit the brakes, the car will shut off. Not sure if all remote starter has this but I thought I was a pretty good feature.
