Remote Engine Start via remote control
Hi together,
first I shortly want to introduce myself. My name is Daniel and I live in Germany. I am owner of a 2007 350z US-Version.
I have a wireless remote control with a remote engine start function.
The only problem is, that the remote engine start only works if the key is in the ignition lock.
Is there a possibility to do the remote engine start without the key in the ignition lock?
It make sense, that driving is only possible with the key in the ignition lock, but the engine start should be done before...
I am looking forward for your suggestions...
best regards
Daniel

The OEM security system requires the key because it's chipped.

Is it only the chip inside the key, which is needed for the engine start or must the key be in the ignition lock?
Because if I only hold the key next to the ignition lock, the engine start per remote is also not possible....
thanks a lot for your reply

When I had remote start installed in my wife's Ford, it only required the chip be near the ignition. I believe they broke off the key part and put it near the electronics of the starter.
Never heard of having to have it in the ignition, even on a 350.

Your remote start SHOULD start without a key. It was either installed incorrectly, or something to do with the bypass module has gone wrong.
I would recommend taking the vehicle to a car audio shop who also does car alarms or remote starts and getting them to have a look at it.
Umm I have a remote start. A viper 2 way, got it installed from a garage down in so cal. I can start my car a good 200 yards away. They didn't put a key in the car or anything. So it can be done without having the key near the car

ok, thanks for your reply.
One question for al@phatrides:
What exactly did you mean with "bypass module" ?
I have this remote starter:

Our cars have a factory immobilizer that will prevent the car from starting unless the chip that is in the key is sensed by the car (using that sensor at the key cylinder we talked about before)
There are two types of bypass modules that are common to be used in our cars, RFID type, and Data Type.
RFID type uses a chip like the one in in your key. Some types require you to put a key in a box under the dash, and then wrap a wire antenna around the front of the key cylinder. This transmits the RFID signal off the chip from the key, to the receiver at the key cylinder.
Data type will actually get hard wired into the data system of the car. When you remote start the car it will send the appropriate data signals to bypass the factory immobilizer temporarily.
Check out www.idatalink.com I use these bypasses exclusively because they are extremely reliable, great technical support and manuals and are pretty quick coming out with software for new vehicles. You do however need a programming cable, or need to buy a pre-programmed module with the specific software for your car.
Use the vehicle selection tool to find the right module for your car. They list 4 modules, all will work except the BLADE module which is not compatible with your remote starter.
