Default Need Help Fitting Infinity Perfect 6.1 in Doors

Does anyone have the infinity perfect 6.1 installed? how did you guys get it to fit? i used the factory speakers as a spacer, but i can't fit the door panel back on because it now sticks out too much. If i try to shave the spacer then the magnet will hit the window. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You will have to cut out the little ribs around the speaker opening inside the door panel. They're white plastic, and easily taken care of with a dremel tool.

Exactly right...
I had to do the same to fit 6.5" JL's. I even made custom spacers because the speakers were to big to fit in the gutted factory speaker rings.
Cut the plastic ribs out of the door panel wherever they interfere.

On my install (JL XR 650 components), I had to build a ring of 1/4" wood to add to the spacer. This gave me the clearance around the window but necessitated the dremeling of the area around the factory grille. If you pop the grille off, you can see a spot where the speaker will hit the door panel under higher excursions. I had to dremel that part out to make it clear. Luckily, this lip won't ever show because the grille covers it nicely.

thanks for the reply guys. that was exactly what i was thinking but just wanted to know if it was done another way. also, are you guys experiencing the window hitting the speaker when you shut the doors while the window is down?

It's made from two pieces of MDF. I used the factory spacer as a pattern for first piece, and cut the top piece to fit the 6.5" speakers. Glued the two halves together.

First attempt was too thick... made from two pieces of 3/4" MDF. Finished spacer (as installed on car) is 1 1/8" thick.

Assembled... but too thick. Cut it down for finished spacer.
