not sure about kenwood but most high end HU's with usb update thru the usb.. basiclly copy the files to a jump drive that has fat32 file table ,plug it in ,power up HU , goto the update screen...

 

It says on the Kenwood update page that it can't be done via USB. I tried it once, but maybe I didnt have the right "format"? I don't know the difference between all that junk!

PLUS the dvd player plays sound, but no video? Idk what to do about that either.

 

in order for the ipod to work you have to use the kenwood ipod cable and not just usb. part# kca-ip300v (you might have to also adjust a setting, not 100% sure)

as far as video on the dvd did you hook up the parking brake wire(light green)
it either has to be grounded(always bypassed) or hooked to your parking brake and if hooked to the parking brake will only work when the parking brake is engaged.

I think you have to burn the update to to a cd in order for the update to load, i know the double din from that lineup updated that way.

 

I bought the KCA-iP302 version of the ipod cable since apparently the 300 is obsolete? Thats what the car audio guy told me.

I'll have to go in and look at the wires back there. It was my first deck install and my buddy's first DVD install so we were guessin and checkin.. It plays music though, so that's good!

Also, viewing pictures on this guy, do you know how to pull that off? I read it had to be in jpeg, but i have pix that are, and nothing comes up?

I grounded the wire just like you said. Man- that was easy. I was really intimidated by takin out the dash again, but I'm basically a pro after doin it 2x!

Still lookin for help on the ipod thing tho...

 

the 300 and 302 are the same thing as far as I can tell. If you have the usb, black, and yellow jacks all hooked up its probably an update issue. The kvt-512 is a year+(I think they made that model for a few years actually) old and if you have a newer ipod thats probably the issue.

I looked at the KVT-514 we have on display and I didnt see any menu setting that needed to be changed.

You cant really "view" pictures, especially from the ipod. The only way you can do it is to load them on a flash drive and go thru the motions like you are going to change the background to one of the pictures. Basically worthless other than changing the background. If you are refering to the "no photo" box that pops up when you select ipod that is for album art.

 

Well I have a USB with pictures on it, and the option to change the background is greyed out(unaccessable) last I checked anyway. I really want to change that background. I need to mess around with it more.

That update is killin me. My buddy has roxio and he tried 2 separate times makin it as a data disc but it just buzzes when I put it in there
