Default Magellen 7" Cubby Hole

I had no idea that there are portable navigation units with big 7 inch screens. Has anyone installed this type of unit in the cubby? I know guys have mounted 7" monitors in the cubby and those small 4 inch portable units but what about these new portable Magellen 7" display units? I'm curious to know if there is GPS performance loss due to the unit being 'embedded' in the dash? Any info on this would be amazing.

Here are some current model Magellen units with 7 inch touchscreens.

Thanks!

I've got a Garmin mounted in my cubby, and it acquires the satellites almost instantly, and the signal strength meter always shows 4 or 5 (out of 5) bars.

You guys rock! thanks. I actually did a bit of searching and found some land rover guys that did the Magellen 7" install..this is pretty incredible to me. A standalone GPS unit, no separate nav box that needs an external monitor..and the install look just as good as stock becuase it fills the entire cubby area. These guys say GPS reception is a none issue.

I'm picking one up today

"dcains" That's awesome and clean..plus convenient because you can take it out and use in other vehicles. I'm looking for a more OEM permanent look like the Land Rover link above. I'll need to remove the center console in order to mount the unit behind cubby. The 7" Magellen should fill in the entire space behind the cubby's inner bezel.

Somewhere on this site is a thread showing a 7" flush-mounted in a Z. Hopefully you can find it.

Default Magellen RoadMate 9055

Found the thread which is for a standard 7" video monitor. Installation for the Magellen will be the same:

This is the unit I'm ordering: RoadMate 9055 it has bluetooth and also A/V input.

The post right below yours shows an install for a Magellan 1700. Its a 7" portable GPS system. This is what I am going to be mounting in my Z. I like the Streetpilot 7200 but its expensive.

Amazing..I'm ashamed that I didn't find this in my original search! Seems the boys already mastered the Magellan install. I have an 04 ZR so I had to order the 03 cubby. This is how I'd like my install to look, very clean:
