Default LoJack cost? Value buy here?

My g/f is picking up a new RSX tomorrow, and the dealer wants to sell her LoJack. We, of course, declined everything that the finance manager pushed, but he relented that his cost of LoJack was $475 and that he'd sell it for $498 (installed).

I know better than to believe anything that is told to me at a dealership, but I wanted to check with the forum to see if this really is an approximate cost to a dealer. I told him that I saw the cost of a LoJack system on one of the posting boards that I visit to be around $300+ (I might've been mistaken...).

My g/f lives in Richmond, which does have more than its fair share of crime (slightly less than the infamous Oakland), so it might not be such a bad investment. So is the dealer offer good, or should we look elsewhere for this commodity?

I don't know the true dealer cost but I'd pay for that $498 lojack. My folks and bro paid $500 for their lojacks in their 03 Pilot and 02 RSX-S, respectively.

The dealer offered my friend and I a "discounted" deal for $698 a couple of days ago when I picked up my car. We politely declined the offer and planned on going to the same dealership where my folks got their lojack.

Good call. I got ripped when I got my LoJack from the dealer. I should've done some [LoJack] shopping around first. $754 taxed. Who knew that I could have just gone to the Acura dealership?

Guess my g/f would be getting a good deal.

I negotiated the price to dealer cost. Dealer cost is $300.00 installed.

So I was right afterall (despite not quite recalling for sure)... thanks HFM.

BTW, you got your quote from the Nissan dealership? What did you say to get them to reveal the cost?

Does LoJack have a gps/satellite-based system now, or are they using the same system they have been? What about some of the newer technology solutions from folks like Networkcar?

heres lojack vs sattelite. lojack works on radio waves; upside is it works everywhere; downside, it says the car is "somewhere over there" if this were a parking lot or garage; this could be troublesome.

GPS on the other hand can tell you where the car is to a matter of feet. sounds good till you put it inside a warehouse or garage; without sight of the sky; its dead in the water. I personally would rather know its somwhere over there vs nothing if the guy puts it under a roof.

just my thoughts tho.

The nice thing about LoJack (I don't know much about other systems), but once you report your car missing, they can shut it down remotely.

I'm considering it more as I add mods ($$$) to my car.

I told them them that if they were going to charge me what they were charging me for the chrome wheels, $2,000 for what should be about a $300-$400 job, I wanted Lojack at cost.

The dealership admitted $300 as dealership cost. End result, I paid about $1,600 over MSRP due to the chrome but got Lojack at dealer cost, $300. That deal was acceptable.

Dealership cost for Lojack...$300, installed.

I payed $300 for my Lojack, but just last month i found a hole, about 2" x 3", cut-out in the grey plastic in my hatch. Its about between where the right rear lights and the hatch release button is. Anyone else found something simular like this done to their car? Im not even sure if it was the Lojack installers who did this. :-/

HOT DAMN! I'd better check mine... I never really ventured to find out where they installed it, but I hope they didn't just go and cut irrevocable holes...

I think onstar only works on GM cars.

In my experience, the Networkcar system will give you the location where the signal was last - which is the address/location for the garage, warehouse or other covered area. My Z is in a garage at the shop where the A/V system is being finished right now, and when I call it up on Networkcar, it gives me that location. Same thing when it's in the basement garage of the office building where I work.

ah ok, I was given that information from a dealer pushing lojack. so he probably embelished the truth to make lojack a better deal(tho he didnt sell it).

I forget now, but I seem to remember my bumper having that same hole. no lojack. I checked; never took a photo of my bumper from that angle tho; so not sure right now.

When lojack is installed, the installer is not supposed to tell the owner where the transmitter is located. It will be in a different location from car to car.

I guess the theory is, if your car is car jacked and the thief demands to know where the lojack is located because he's taken your wallet and sees your lojack card, you wont be able to tell him.

So when you won't tell him, he just shoots you and takes the car anyway.
