I currently have a BOSE W/O navigation in my 2003Z. While the radio and all controls have always worked the CD player itself will not play. I'm looking to replace it with a new unit, just a digital receiver, no CD player.

Could the current CD player not working complicate successfully installing a new receiver?

the CD is part of the OEM head unit and once removed problem 1/2 solved. now you got to put in a new head unit. you'll need a installation kit and wiring harness. if you buy your radio from a retailer Chrutchfield and Sonic Electronics offer these kits for free with the purchase of the new head unit. good luck to you!
