Upgrading system with Midbass
All i currently have an 2 way Iridium setup in kick pods. I am wanting to add some Peerless SLS 6.5 mid basses to the stock door location. I have been looking trying to search to see if they will fit. Does anyone know if they will fit or what the maximum depth is. I know i will need a spacer most likely. The speakers are 94ish mm deep. I had the stock Bose system originally.
Thanks for any help.
P.S. I searched for over 20 minuets before posting this.

94mm = ~3.7 inches according to google. Max mounting depth is like, 2.6 inches (using a 1 inch spacer) So no they wont fit.
This is a bad idea for a few reasons though.
1. For any kind of bass to be coming from the doors they have to be deadened pretty well in order to not rattle.
2. 350z doors have these stupid offset outlets that block half the sound.
3. It would be a tuning nightmare.
4. A 6.5" already does its job pretty well for hitting a wide range of frequencies. A better solution than adding a same sized driver would be to go with a 3-4" mid-range (possibly in the doors, in custom mounts that offset the driver to line up with the hole) or a larger 8 inch driver in custom pods on the door. Or just change up the sub to get better lows.
Are you using any kind of DSP? Are you just planning on adding a 2 channel amp with built in crossovers to run these new 6.5s?

Thanks for the quick response. I have a h701 for dsp that i control through my HU. I get pretty good lows from my 2 subs already its just missing the middle and alot of drum beats ect. I really dont wont to do anything to the door itself since im going to be selling the car in the next year or 2.
As far as deadening goes that is not a problem i have alot already as well as foam. i hated road noise...... Do you have any suggestions for some midbass' that will fit?

thanks those will work great. now i just need to find the speakers. they will be powered from a alpine pdx 2.150. any good recommendations since my peerless ones wont fit?
Dayton might make some, or Eminence makes one that's 2.2 inches deep and is supposed to be good from parts-express. 8 Ohms though, but with decent sensitivity so theyll do well even with the lower output from the amp.
Maybe move the iridiums to the doors and see if there is more depth in the kicks?

if you want more midbass from your door speakers add a baffel behind the speaker, make sure you punch some small holes in it or it will overheat your speaker. it will also help the rattling in the door.

Morel is one of the top names in my book, and they make awesome drivers. They just cost more than I would want to pay. Just beware that they are 8 ohms, so your amp will only put about 75 watts to them (thats if your amp is putting out 150 on each channel, those PDXs are usually underrated so they might do more) and those speakers can handle a lot more. People usually put like 300 watts RMS to drivers like that for the headroom.

Can i add a few locking washers on top of the spacer to give it the extra room or will that cause problems?

Are you up for making your own spacers instead of using the ones from zenclosures? What I'm going to suggest is taking off the door panel, taking out the little speaker grill, then putting the panel back on and measuring how much room you have. The issue I've run into is the woofer will hit the door panel when you put it out too far. Since you're using a six inch woofer, what you might be able to do is make the spacer, but offset the woofer towards the front of the car. Since the door panel curves in at the center, putting the driver further to the side might block some sound, but allow you to mount it using a thicker spacer and gaining that little bit of critical space. Using washers wouldnt be ideal. I would say try to find some 1/8th inch baltic birch and laminate it to the top of your spacer one layer at a time, making sure it fits each time. Since the woofer is sort of pressurizing the air around it, using washers would most likely make it a lot less effective.
