Default installing Navigation on Non Navigation Z.

Ok fellas I have 05 350z. Does not have nav system. I got a deal on the nav system. I have all components. Lcd screen, dvd player, gps antenna. My main question is what do I have to connect or splice to make it work and funtion correctly. Do the harnesses differ between the two and how sow. I like the oem nav system and have the 07 center console so no fitment issues. Please point me in the right direction thanks.

I have heard that it is not worth it to even do this swap due to the difficulty/cost and possible issues. That is just what I have heard. Maybe some can chime in with different information. I know I'd sure like to convert my base to have OEM navi if I could.

Don't do this. You won't end with a successful solution. --Spike

This has been covered before. There are differences in the wiring harnesses between a nav-equipped Z and one not equipped with nav. No one to my knowledge has been able to transplant an OEM nav system and make it function properly. Hell, I've got one in my parts car and I won't even try to swap it over to my street Z33 at this point.

I've heard the OEM navigation system is horrible. If I were you and wanted to continue with the OEM look (and not consider a double din with built in GPS):

Remove the center cubby flip-door, find a large screen Garmin to fit in, get a custom fiber-glass box molded or wooden box that can be wrapped. People have done custom setups for gauges, don't see why a GPS couldn't be fitted in there too.

OEM navi is pretty bad. I have it in my Z, and I went with a double din headunit so the OEM unit is backup. Your best bet is to go aftermarket double din.

I'll second this.
