After years of riding a Harley, I'm having to give that up due to a bad back. My wife and I are ecstatic about the 2009 350Z, with the exception of the bose system radio. Actually the quality of the music is fine with us. We just like listening to xm/mp3 music as well.
I have been doing some research and am looking at a pioneer head base system. From looking at post on the bd, it looks like the pioneer system and the bose system don't work well together due to the different ohms that the bose(2ohms) have and the pioneer(4ohms) have.
My question is if i get the PAC modulator to help the systems marry up will I get the same quality of sound that I am getting now?

 

Welcome- I hope the Z will also preserve you from having far worse than a bad back on the road. And if you have a 2009 350Z, the rest of us want to see it! Nissan stopped producing the Z33 in 2008, and introduced the 370Z (Z34) in 2009.

As far as your question on the PAC modulator, there are more knowledgeable members on the a/v forum with more informed opinions than me. I'll let them answer...

 

There are plenty of '09 ZR's, although the coupes ened with '08.

As for the Bose/PAC/Pioneer - best to take it all out and start over, rather than cobble together something with adapters.

 

I agree with dcains. BOSE makes life difficult and isn't that great. Much better can be had but you have to do a total rebuild.

 

I agree. Gut the old system out and start with something aftermarket that is versatile and would give you a headache. I gutted mine out a good 10 years ago and installed the latest Pioneer technology at the time. This was before Bluetooth and MP3. I was able to install a Pioneer touch screen and add a separate Pioneer tuner that hard wired into my head unit. It was an XM tuner. I was also able to install an aux cable with an adapter for listening to MP3 from my phone later on. It was all possible because I started over with something versatile...

 

I have a Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit, Audio control Epicenter and DQT, then a Sundown SAX-100.4 and a Sundown SAZ-1000D for amps to power the Rainbow SLC-265.25NG component set in my doors and my pair of Soundsplinter RL-i 10"s in the hatch.

 

I agree with the people telling you to swap out everything. There are too many compromises that affect sound quality when you use an adapter to mate a 2 ohm system with 4 ohm components.

 

Better to just put in new head unit, amp. sub woofer. Only problem is you will get no sound from the nav system if you have that.

 

If your happy with the sound just order your new hu from crutchfield and get all the installation gear and your new head unit will just send a signal to your factory bose amp and that will run the speakers. It shouldn't sound any worse or better. Although im not 100% because like everyone else said I just removed everything that said bose on it and started from scratch.

But to answer your question you should get the same not so great sound. But call the people at crutchfield they are knowledgeable and much friendlier then most members responses.

 

Okay, so if I understand correctly, you are getting an aftermarket Pioneer headunit, and you are getting the PAC modulator to retain bose functionality. Yes?

You shouldn't have an issue. The PAC mod just sends the audio signals to the bose amp/remote signal/power.

Go for the Pioneer head unit. I don't think you will have an issue. Lots of people do it. And with an aftermarket head unit, your speakers may even play a wider range of frequencies and you may get better sound quality.

But don't expect much from OEM. (If you're happy though! No big deal)
