Newb with a few questions
Right now I have the **ahem** not so appealing sounding BOSE system in my 04' and want it out!! I was told by the local shop that I have to get all new wire because the way to BOSE system is run, I can't use any of the existing wire...fact or fiction??
Also, anyone local to Sacramento?? I'm looking for a new installer but refuse to take it anywhere, they have to have some experience with Z's...yes I'm a tad paranoid.
The people who did my Pioneer nav system did a real nice job (Paridyme), but they're just a tad expensive, and say I can only buy the parts from them if I want them to install. There's a chance I will go back to them, since they did the initial work, but was wondering if there's any other options out there.
Thanks

Hi Toy,
I'm from Sacto. area. I went to a shop on Madison near Manzinita.
Can't remember name but call (916) 338-2500; ask for "Peter".
They did a great job with my Zzzzz. I had the system installed several months ago & it still sounds great. Just as important, I don't have a single rattle from all the work they did.
Below is a link to a thread describing my system & cost.

If you do take to Peter, tell him Dennis says "Hi" and he still owes me a copy of a Jazz Crusaders CD!!

Hey thanks for the info!! I'll give them a call and check it out tomorrow!
Did you have a Bose system in yours as well?? Does that include all new wiring...as I was told I need since i have Bose? And you were able to fit a 10"? Damn, thought the biggest I could get was 8" in the stock spot. Did they custom build a box as well?

Mine was the non-Bose sytem. "No" on new wiring & I don't know if the Bose will require all new wiring.
They did not build a custom box but will probably take it back at some point to do so. On about 20% of the music I listen too a custom box would be a real plus.
By the way, I visited several shops and received three prices from shops I believed to know what they were doing. (I don't recall names/numbers of others). All were around 1500 bucks for what I wanted. If you go to Peter, ask for the same installer that did mine; the guy did a good job. I don't remember the installer's name but Peter will know.

Hey bro, what's up. Regards to replacing the Blose system, I think what your local shop was talking about was that you will have to replace ALL components of the Blose system to get it to sound right. It's been my experience with prior Blose systems that all of their components are proprietary to their system and thus cannot be used with any after-market components. Whether that means that you have to re-wire the whole car or not, I don't think so. But, you will likely have to run new speaker wires from whatever amp you use or head unit you install. Having said all of that, I do remember having seen a thread on this forum about a converter that integrates from the Blose amp, allowing someone to use the stock head unit with aftermarket amps, but I would personally not recommend that. I hope this is helpful to you and best of luck in getting your new system!
Thanks for the Info...
Nah, I'm going to take it all out...and go all new. I have the Pioneer NAV-SYS610T Nav system in there now, which I purposely bought for the extra two vid outputs. One will be for a DVD head unit and the other a backup camera.
I'm going to go and check out the place Brickyard told me about today...it's not too far from my house. The first place i went to quoted me at $2,600....which included:
Pioneer DVD head unit
Pioneer premiere component speakers
Pioneer 4 channel amp
Alpine 6 1/2 for rear
Fosgate 8" sub
all new wire and a TON of money for custom box and install
BUT, I think I'll try the route Brickyard went and scratch the box for now, since he seems to be happy. But we'll see, I'll post again this afternoon after I go ot there...

Welp, just got back from there...going to be around $2,100 for:
-Diamond Audio 6 1/2 comp.
-800w Eclipse amp
- 6 1/2 3-way rear spkrs (Eclipse)
-10" sub (JLA10WO)
-Pioneer P5000 DVD head unit
-plus wires and install
You guys think 800w amp is too much to push the front skprs and the sub? Had a $400 price tag, which isn't too bad I guess...
Brickyard...
Peter no longer works there, so I didn't ask about the CD
But thankfully the installer you had still does.

I'm sure they will do a good job; I got 'em trained on the rattle issue! HA!
Price sounds reasonable to me given you are replacing rear speakers as well .....plus your HU may be a step up from mine.
Several guys will tell you your being ripped on the install price but I was happy to pay them what they wanted because (a) I have no skill/patience to do it myself and (b) I trusted them to do a quality install ....which they did.
Hope your goes as well.
What about the Bose wiring? Does it have to be replaced?
To bad on Peter not being there; the guy was a trip!
