I have the reference series and they sound great. A+ quality with any kind of music. You should hear the q-series, they sound better than my home system, but with an msrp of like $1350 a pair, not getting those any time soon lol.

MB quart are a pretty good speaker line. Not sure about the phoenix gold amps, since I have never had one, but I have heard that they run solid and sound good for the price level.

Re: MB Quart & Phoenix Gold questions
Phoenix gold, Orion and a whole bunch of other good brands from the mid 90's got bought by directed electonics and are now made in China... Not the same like they used to be...
I don't know what your budget is but I would spend the most money on a good amp like Xtant, you can keep it forever...
MB Quart drivers sound really good if you use a really clean amp, the tweaters are very bright (too bright for me).
My favorite component set is made from OZ Audio, CS-180. If you do some research you will see that these speakers have got 100% scores at IASCA competitions... The only speakers to do this... The tweeter is really smooth and soft and the drivers are really clean and hard hitting.
My 2cents

There will be a sound system upgrade article in the Fall '04 issue of Sport Z magazine. Speakers are at either end of MB Quart's lineup- the most expensive and the least- were tried in different cars. Both the Q-line and Discus seres speakers were impressive in upgrading the sounds from either the stock or Bose systems in the 350Z.

I have the MB Quart QM 218.61 Q and the sound is amazing. Is very natural and cristal clear. I bought one set new for $355.00 shipped from E-Bay and other used for $282.00 from E-Bay. They came with one defective tweeter. I don't found it and bought a Focal Utopia TN 51 Tweeters new for $150.00 shipped from E-Bay.

Phoenix Gold is a solid amp. I run Xtant but if I wanted to save some cash, I would run PG. Check out their Tantrum line. They also have a pretty good Xenon amp. It's just huge, skateboard huge.
MB Quart Q series is a good line. Once you start getting 1k+, you can't go wrong. Check out PHD components. Pretty new brand, mfgr in Italy. Heard their Modena components. Definately worth the money. I'm going to put them in my gf car. MSRP is 1100 though.
