Default pioneer avic n1 NAV question

hi guys i notice a handful of you have the avic. is there an option within the navigation to basically just show your current location in regards to your surroundings, without having to enter a destination/origin?

i was in an acura mdx w/ navigation the other day in downtown milwaukee. the lady i was with pressed a button or two on the display, and it just showed a map of downtown with her car marked and followed her car as we changed streets, etc. if i'm not making sense, i could try to add a few more details tia.

does this mean that as long as you have an origin in memory it will follow your car? and how 'large' is the area it will store in memory? if i drive 5 miles, will i be out of range? or if the dvd is left in the unit, will it follow endlessly?

If you don't put in a destination, most navs will show your current position with surrounding roads. The AVIC-N1 does this. The memory feature is seperate. If you take out the nav dvd and put in a music cd, it'll store a portion of the map in memory. You can go to www.avic-n1.com to find out the specific.s

this is exactly what i wanted to know, thank you just may be a reason to incorporate another head unit in the system (for music), i tend to find myself in unfamiliar areas often that may require me to leave the navigation dvd in thanks again.

Just buy a 6 or 12 CD changer.

Does anyone that has this unit know if I get the DVD changer can I leave the Nav DVD in the changer? I am thinking about getting one for my eclipse and but I really wanna be able to use the indash slot without having to worry about the nav disk.

I guess I am unsure if the DVD changer will transfer data as well as music data.

You should be able to add a pioneer 12 disk changer with no problem. I plan on doing this soon.

Nav will only work in the head unit. Oh, and to answer the original question, yes. You can even touch anywhere on the map and scroll around and check out the whole vicinity.
