Stone chips - another reason to be careful
There has been much talk about what stone chips do to the paint on cars. But what about what stones do to windscreens?
A guy who is working on a project for me has 350Z that recently copped a stone chip in the windscreen.
He thought about replacing the whole thing and was quoted.....................$3500..............because "no-one stocks them and they would have to be flown in".
He then went to a windscreen repair place and got the thing repaired for $74.
This time he was lucky that it could be repaired, possibly because he acted quickly and before it got bigger.
I don't know how I would have reacted if it was me and I was asked for $3500.

That's what insurance is for isn't it? Thats why we pay the large premiums. I'd be interested to know if Nissan stock them locally as spares, it seems illogical not to, but then again it is Nissan...

I actually just checked with my local Nissan dealer, wonders will never cease but he could get one in half a day and the cost was $731.50 +GST.
So I don't know where this windscreen mob were pulling a $3500 price tag from but it wasn't a place i'd like to go.

I agree with you Harry.
I remember someone once posted a thread about a replacement Track model wheel and it was somewhere in the vicinity of $1500-$1800 for one lousy wheel minus the tyre.
Those wheels aren't that great.

That quote was from my Nissan dealer, although I didn't stipulate genuine I would imagine that they wouldn't sell other peoples parts above their own.
I just this minute called them again and yes, he did make a mistake, that is the price for a genuine Nissan front windscreen including GST, not ex-GST as he stated previously. He was as surprised as I was!!
So about $670 for a genuine Nissan windscreen plus GST, Woo Hoo! Bargain! I'll have three...
